Europe@feddit.org•Die Linke’s Fight to Win Back Working-Class GermansEnglish
251·3 days agoMain issue i see is the hard wired indoctrination of center-right to right-wing talking points which are beeing blasted through every media channel for decades. Most people share the very same issues but for some reason the conclusion for a lot of them is to kick downwards(edit:/on their peers) instead strengthening the economical class their part of.
Especially in the past i didnt share the same opinions as Die Linke when it eg came to foreign policy. But it still was the only party which actually wanted to do or did something for me and my class.
Well fingers crossed they figure out a way to win back working-class germans. But tbh i’m really pessimistic when it comes to that sadly.

Technology@lemmy.world•Samsung's latest update is a serious gut punch to Galaxy power usersEnglish
32·4 days agoI had a Samsung TV over 10 years ago. One of the early “smart” ones. It got quite a few updates where a happy little text box told “your samsung smart tv got even better” or some shit like that. Even if they actively removed features and or apps got unsupportet. You know after like 2 years or so.
Like fuck it. It still works as regular ass TV till this date. But the whole software and update experience was so shit that i never bought a samsung device ever again. Wait, thats a lie. I bought two of those 25 buck dumbphones from them. They were pretty good for what they were, ngl. But apart from that Samsung is a big no-no for me and i get proven right year after year.

8·4 days agoMy guy,
i said mobile compute power is insane. You had a somewhat sensible take why it may not transfer to a laptop. I gave you hard facts why your concerns arent applicable. Instead of just admitting you misjudged the resolution differences you mansplain to me some irrelevant things. Yeah, the power draw is going to be different. Its a laptop, no shit. It also has tons of more space for a battery.
You are just talking out of your ass. Instead of looking up the wikipedia page for 2 minutes.
/Its also a released product. Reviews and benchmarks are readily available… Like what. Just look it up.

Technology@lemmy.world•Asus Co-CEO: MacBook Neo Is a 'Shock' to the PC IndustryEnglish
81·4 days agoSo if you’re running a larger format display with a higher resolution, cut that by quite a bit.
Funny thing is that the Macbook Neo needs to drive less pixels:
Iphone 16 Pro: 2868 x 1320
Macbook Neo: 2408 x 1506
Also only at 60hz and not 120hz. While having magnitudes more thermal mass to cool with the prolonged high performance bursts. I dont have any worries about its performance in its intented market segment. And yes, its running MacOS which still runs pretty well with a Macbook Air M1-M3 with 8GB of RAM.

82·4 days agoI mean modern smartphone SOC compute power is insane. That wont be a bottleneck for a long time. If i had to make a guess they dont even have to go the hardware failure route for planned obsolescence. That measily 8GB of shared ram for both CPU and GPU will take care of that. Just add a bit more shiny UI bloat with every update and this thing will get slow af at some point in the future. Takes care of all the entry level M1 Airs too…

edit: Sweet, i got it uninstalled with some help. Wont share the command lines because you really shouldnt copy them from a bumbling idiot like me.

Europe@feddit.org•‘Bitter result’ for Friedrich Merz as Greens win in German car heartlandEnglish
61·6 days agoCDU - Black - Pre-MAGA Republicans
SPD - Red - Democrats with the same lack of Spine
Greens - Green - But apart from enviroment stuff not as progressive as one might think
FDP - Yellow - Libs
Linke - Red - Left
AFD - Blue - MAGA
Greens in BaWü - Dark Green - Because they are more like Republicans which arent opposed to renewables.
The part where you take a breather. Assess the situation. Try to find a solution. Ask for help in a forum or discord channel. You know things you do when encountering a problem with something you’re not familiar with.
But i’m under the impression that you dont argue faithfully. So i’m going to fuck off.
Have you ever organized an event? Have you ever attended an event? Like what part isnt to get here? Installing a fresh OS while you do other stressful things or just other things which need your attention is a stupid move.
Then on top: Have you ever done something which you are inexperienced with while beeing distracted by other things which need your attention? While under time pressure. In what world isnt that detrimental to anything you want to do.
And yes i’d argue the chances of having the same outcome with a different OS is a lot higher with these circumstances UNLESS you have like 20 years of experience like he does with Windows.
Linus literally just asked chatgpt what to do and then decided against his own already gained experience and chose Pop! again. He calls himself mR tECh tIpS. He could atleast use the competency he actually has. I dont think he is a bumbling fool. But he sure as hell acts like one when it comes to anything Linux.
And the playful incompetency and antics are part of the identity of the channel. I get that. Its Top Gear for PC and tech related topics. But in this video it just feels like he has zero interest in the challenge and openly tries to make Linux look bad. I’m sure somebody will argue he just plays a fool to provide a cautionary how not to approach a switch to Linux. But i dont see that. The video isnt setup like that. He doesnt react like that. He seems genuinely surprised that when you install an OS with which you arent experienced with in middle of a LAN party it wont work out. While beeing the organizer of the party AND beeing filmed for a video. Yeah, no shit it didnt work out.
Its a wild video tbh. Switching your OS on your own LAN which you organize? This is already a high stress situation and then he expect it to just work out of the box with barely any time or patience to give it a fair try. If a Linux veteran would do this for shits and giggles as just a guest things still could have gone wrong but he probably would have atleast the experience to fix things.
But this isnt even a Linux issue. Imagine installing Win11 for the very first time without decades of Windows experience because you are eg a Mac user. The chances are pretty high that something goes wrong and you wouldnt have any clue how to fix them in like half an hour.
Normalizing the use of ChatGPT for decisions doesnt sit with me well in general. But especially for Linux stuff its such a bad choice. I may be a luddite and AI hater. But i actually have tried those damn chatbots and they fucking suck for Linux questions. Their answers are more often than not atleast missleading, outright wrong and sometimes just outdated.
I could shit on linux all day for all the real issues it has. But at some point i just skipped every Linus segment because it was unbearable to watch his antics.
The segments with Luke and the helmet guy were pretty good tough.

Here’s my somewhat recent assessment of the current state of linux vr: https://piefed.social/post/1765677#comment_10094795
Personally i use a Pico 4 (non ultra) standalone headset. Its overall a good enough experience that i dont want to switch back to Windows. I would consider myself a somewhat ‘normal’ user. Huge nerd. But linux and opensource isnt the only thing which keeps me moving in my personal life.
PCVR is still overall just ‘bothersome’. Both on Windows and Linux. I have 6 years of experience with PCVR on Windows with a the Oculus/Facebook/Meta Rift S and and a Bytedance/Pico 4. On Windows its also just a mess. Zuckerbergs software is ass. Pico Connect got pretty good over the years but depending on the game while extracting the best performance can be pretty fiddly. Also sometimes you just want use Virtual Desktop instead. On Linux its maybe a bit worse, i guess? But not by much. Mostly different. It really helped me to be somewhat deep into the rabbithole of PCVR on the Windows side before i tackled Linux PCVR.
Anyway, WiVRn with Xrizer is pretty awesome.
To finally answer your questions:
-VR is IMHO in a acceptable state on Linux (all things considered)
-Pico 4 is pretty good IMHO(!).
-No, VR companies dont provide shit so far. Its all community software(which is pretty good). If thats important to you wait how the Steam Frame turns out.
