That’s probably a factor (insurers make enough payments to hospitals they can demand lower prices and get them while out of pocket people usually don’t have much power to negotiate), but also this article makes it sound like $1400 is just the base price,
The report estimates the average ambulance ride in the United States costs $1,383.44, more than double Australia’s $622 average. The gap widens further with mileage fees: Americans pay about $19.49 per mile, while most other countries charge little to nothing based on distance traveled.

100% agreed with that statement, but I wonder if he’s an even more hardcore MAGAt than he is zionist, because at least temporarily I could see those two fascistic movements coming into conflict with each other

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•The Left Wing should call itself Pro-Human instead of 'left'
4·2 months agoThe problem is the lack of debate. This team think that makes every idea from the other side stupid by default. A parliamentary system will fail when people stop talking to each other.
Somewhat agreed, but there are a few things that really need to be behind debate (human caused climate change, the need for universal healthcare and universal human rights, the efficacy of vaccines, etc.). Some political organization is a good thing.

Under Trump, the firm is “rescoping” to work that perpetuates coal use and will boost local pollution.102·2 months agoGreat example of why we can’t ever let dipshits like Biden have power ever again. Trying to win over for-profit scumbags by bribing them with taxpayer money doesn’t work, it just gives them more resources to be shitty with. It didn’t work when Clinton tried it with the telecos, didn’t work when Obama tried it with the insurance companies, and it should have been no surprise it wasn’t going to work here either.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What countries do you want to exist?
7·2 months agoExcept in the current disorganized world we always just end up with one or two superpowers bullying the little governments and crushing all kinds of diversity anyway.
Also,
You can move to a country with less oppressive laws
That might work for the crafty and well-resourced individual who has a go bag and good OpSec and can actually hop borders and keep their heads down, but that sort of thing is nearly impossible for, like, a single parent working for a crap hourly wage, or an unhoused person dealing with an extended mental health crisis, or other more vulnerable people. Justice shouldn’t depend on geography.

World News@lemmy.world•At least 34 people die as thousands cross to Spanish enclave of Ceuta from MoroccoEnglish
92·3 months ago[Spain’s prime minister] attributed the mass crossing to “human trafficking mafias” that had taken advantage of a decision by Spain’s supreme court, which recently ruled that those intercepted at sea while trying to enter Ceuta, or Spain’s other north African enclave of Melilla, could not be summarily returned under special rules.
Also,
The Moroccan government is asking its citizens who have crossed the border to return home. Morocco’s ambassador to Spain, Karima Benyaich, said at an embassy event Thursday that the situation in Ceuta was “not wanted by the Kingdom of Morocco,” adding that it would “prefer legal, orderly, and safe immigration for everyone.”
