Instead of connecting via your external IP, consider setting up DDNS (Dynamic DNS). Most routers support it out of the box, it’s free (using a DDNS service like DuckDNS) and easy to set up. Once working you’ll connect via a static URL rather than an IP and when your external IP address changes, that URL will update automatically within a few minutes and direct you to the new IP.

Efficiency per passenger mile is the big question. I’ll probably be worse than subsonic aircraft, but I’d guess that some of the technologies that make SS travel possible may make subsonic travel more efficient.

We used to go weekly for groceries and spent hundreds per month, but have been consciously changing our buying habits for a couple of years. We’ve now got it down to once every 6 weeks or so for things we can’t easily find elsewhere. At today’s prices we’d probably be spending $450 per month, instead we’re spending about $15, if that.

Questions for the ridiculous number of people on here who are perfectly willing to give up their right to privacy because you believe it makes schools and other places safer:

Have you read the 50+ page user agreement for your cell phone company? How about the user agreements of every app that has access to your cell phone, your PC mic or apps that have access to your files? Late model cars have microphones too, as do TV remotes. Microsoft has access to everything on your Windows PC. I’d give 100 to 1 odds that 99% of you haven’t read any of those user agreements OR the UA for private chat apps you are using. Likewise are you sure any cloud storage you’re using isn’t scanning your documents for forbidden phrases?

Since you haven’t read every word of each and every user agreement and think it keeps schools safe, you should be just fine with the fact that EVERYTHING you say or write may be available to law enforcement, even if you’re talking to yourself while sitting on the toilet in your home. If you mutter that you’d like to kill someone or burn something misheard as a school building to the ground you are just fine with AI flagging it and the police knocking on your door in an hour, right? You’ll also be just fine with losing your career and your job never being able to find another one, right? Right? After all, other people never know WTF someone dangerous and violent is going to do.

The number of people on here who are perfectly willing to give up all their rights and have their private communications monitored for something that is nothing more than security theater is unbelievable.

End-to-end encryption on Telegram only exists in Secret Chats, which has to be manually activated. I used it for more than a year without realizing it and sent private financial info across it thinking it would remain private. IMO Signal’s a much better choice.

Would a teacher venting to a friend in her apartment with the windows open be overestimating her degree of privacy if overheard by a neighbor and reported to police? How about if she’s on a phone call and law enforcement “happens” to be monitoring the call? In a pubic park? In a coffee shop? In her car with the windows open?

It is perfectly reasonable to expect a joke shared over a private chat with friends remain private without reading 50 pages of legal language.

Time to give the Windows 8 “Metro” UI another shot, after all the only reason it wasn’t accepted (according to numerous Microsoft employees) is “People are afraid of change.”

LIke you I deleted all my comments and verified they were deleted. When I looked a couple of months later, Reddit had actually restored each and every one.

I’m slowly deleting them again. Maybe this time they’ll stay gone.
