Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's a gadget or appliance that you purchased that you would wholeheartedly recommend to others?
2·4 days agoFew things. One is a home vacuum seal machine. I can keep food for much longer. Just vacuum seal it. Never thought I would ever use it that much. Secondly our Chinese toilet with inbuilt massage shower head to wash my ass. Most people refer to it as a Japanese toilet. The cleanliness feeling after it hits the stream right on target, is just the best. These unfortunate underpaid people can burn down all the toiletpaper warehouses in the world.

12·4 days agoMaybe you live in a 4rd level city, but here in Shanghai, the speed is fenomal. I download a 4k atmos movie in mere seconds. And outside because most of the city is covered by 5GA, it’s crazy fast. Whenever I go back to Europe, I struggle with both the fixed line speed and whatever they claim is 5G.

83·6 days agoChina has a bigger landmass than the US and China’s internet is insanely fast. Just like the 5GA. The US is like dialup compared to China. Especially now only Netgear is allowed in the US compared to the innovate technology from the likes of Huawei.

World News@lemmy.world•China Edges Past U.S. in Global Approval RatingsEnglish
1·18 days agoPartially agree with you but a lot of things you raised are the same in western countries. It’s also refreshing to read sensible commentary. The mass surveillance is the same in other countries including the US, but not as obvious as in China. The cameras work as a deterrent. I can leave my phone and laptop outside in the park or café and don’t need to worry about it being stolen. Censorship is a real thing all over the world especially now in the US with whitewashing of history. Even on US controlled platforms like Reddit, you get perma banned if you are critical of the Trump administration.
And I’m sure the history books in the US do not go in depth about the treatment of tge native Americans and how they were almost eradicated.
The same in Europe. In the Netherlands the history books never mention the atrocities the VOC did in regards to slave trade and colonies.
I don’t agree about the working conditions. I travel all over China and deal with different businesses. Things are definitely improving. But at least the workers have workers protections and social security and health care.
I have both lived and worked in the US and China and prefer living in China.
Let’s get the downvotes started

Besides drug approval, which is not a measurement in itself, I can attest to this. A large German pharma, has increased their head count from 7 to 40 within a year. They bought a local pharma for 1 billion US dollar and at the same time closed a US facility. The same goes for many other pharmas. You can say what you want about China, but they are investing heavily in science. Because they believe in science. Unlike the current regime of the US.
