Imagine creating one of the best, most important pieces of media of your generation. Being a rock star of a new medium, defining genres, shaping history and the world.

Then imagine struggling to keep a job, find work, and create more works in your medium. And now imagine that you were barely in your 20s when you broke out, so that the rest of your life is always in the shadow of your first masterpieces.

Romero seems like way too nice a person, too good of a being, to be treated with such indignity. In a lot of ways Bill Gates and his company have been fucking over Romero for like 30 years now.

I guess they are about to make John Romero their bitch now.

Jokes aside, it is sad to see all the cuts going on right now, especially since I think they’re stupid, shortsighted and misguided.

AI slop games for everyone! We can use the entire power of a remote datacenter surrounded by natural gas burning turbines to simulate what each button press you make does. It will be frighteningly accurate and will offer new and unique gameplay features like nonsensical hallucinations of constantly changing non-euclidean geometry you must attempt to navigate, and the risk of real wildfire smoke making you struggle to breathe while you play for added challenge!

Interesting timing for this to pop into my feed now, since I just finished listening to the Masters of Doom audiobook the other day. Highly recommend for those who having read or listened

I’ve been enjoying John’s streams/VODs since he started showcasing the dev of SIGIL. Bunch of neat history talk in the industry.
