  • Photography is a good option. You can take a class for it in most high schools or online if you’re an adult. A decent enough camera can be had for around $300 and you can do the editing on free programs like gimp. In turn, you can make that back with a single client foing senior pictures for highschoolers, most wedding photographers charge around a grand for a wedding, more depending on length and if they want touch ups. Realitors like to keep a professional in their pocket because good photos of a house gets more people interested. Then of course there’s all the family/baby/dog/business/etc photoshoots in between.

Tailoring. In a world of fast fashion, having someone who can fit you for a suit is a necessity if you’re wearing it more than once. Most tailor services I’ve met work for 3 or 4 clients a month and that covers their lifestyle.

HVAC pays really well and by the time you finish you’re trade school class on it you’ll already have everything you need to go solo.

Landscaping is another good option if you font mind the heat and labor. For about $2k you can get everything you absolutely need to get into it and by the 5th client you’re probably looking at enough to get more professional gear. The best bet for clients are actually smaller businesses like gas stations that aren’t chains, rental properties, and specialty clinics. Most of them don’t have the service built in and are willing to make a deal if you offer better service or cheaper prices than the current option. This gets even better if you learn local landscaping practices and do the design work too. I knew a guy that got himself a contract with an HOA to do the work for an entire neighborhood. When he started he couldn’t dream of affording to live there, by the time I met him he made more than most of the residents.

  • Right now I’m using a combination of Home Assistant on the server, GrapheneOS on the phones, a pihole set up as a DNS whitelist, and an app that escapes me from F-droid that locks other apps bases on screen time. Took me maybe 10min to find everything and 2 months to set up but that was mostly due to my sheer incompetence when it comes to anything that isn’t physical. Along the way I even got a jellyfin server going age appropriate music and video sectioned off for him. When he’s responsible enough for it I’ll be teaching him how to pirate his own content.

  • While I’m 100% on your side here and I make a point to champion the actual values of these anxiety riddled glass boxes, I do want to point out that we can do all that without them. My kid didn’t get modern electronics until he was competent with paper books, dictionary, and offline only tech.

That said, the added stance here is that we can have both. My kid’s phone is locked down to the point that he can’t even message contacts that I didn’t approve. It’s all operated in house from his phone, my phone, and the shit box excuse for a server I run. I have a curated plan for how he’ll earn his way up to full access and planned strategies for teaching him the safety and independence he needs. I know exactly fuck all about tech, can’t remember any commands for Linux, struggled to understand Docker, but still managed to make it happen. If I can pull it off, the only thing stopping literally anyone else is the choice not to do it.

  • I actually found it far easier to connect it through cloudflared tunnel service. Grab a cheap domain name through them and then just follow the guide on their website. Took me longer to type this message than it did to get running and I’ve managed to fail at setting up the Arr suite 3 times now despite it basically being copy paste.

I paid maybe 15 bucks total to have someone else doing all the hard work for the next 5 years and all I have to do is go to my website and log in. No VPN, no port forwarding, and it works on every platform.

  • This doesn’t at all look like they’re minimizing either side. They very clearly stated that both sides are fucking Africa for their own profit. The emphasis in the question is because no one comes on Lemmy to talk about how great the west is. Rightly so, we’re a shithole with delusions of grandeur, but no one shows up to post unironic memes about the US being wringfully villainized in china.

  • Know anyone that’s into gaming? Modding old consoles is a great way to get into diagnosing board problems and fixing the crap PCBs in small electronics is fantastic for learning to solder. Two weeks ago I didn’t know shit about the eldrich slab of charms and runes inside electronics. Last week I successfully tested two power units for a playstation 4 and correctly diagnosed that mine has died due to APU overheating. Took about 2 hours, two videos, and a $15 continuity tester.

Unfortunately, mine’s dead in the water until I find someone who can reball the APU for less than the cost of a new system. In the mean time, I’m doing a tear down and mod on my Xbox 360.

  • This is one of the core parts of my jammy onion recipe. It’s either served as topping for burgers, steak, etc. or turned into French onion soup.

If youre ever craving that vintage Americana experience of a vintage road side diner, crack open a beer and leave it on the back of the stove over night to go stale. Cook your onions with half the oil you’d normally use, and if they get dry or the fond darkens, deglaze with the stale beer. When the mess gets to a color between burnt coffee and old motor oil, your done. What you get is a semisweet preserve with a hint of the texture you cut the onions into. The taste is a heady mix of smoke, deep fried sides, strong onions, and that you’d imagine the dive bar in every noir film smells like. A situation that isn’t as off-putting as it sounds and becomes a lingering sense of nostalgia almost immediately.

For added effect, use a beer you have a complicated relationship with, like the beer ne you shared with a former partner or the drink of choice for a family member that passed.

  • Dox your local representative. Their family, their friends, their employees. Make sure every meth head in your county knows the name, face, and address of the man or woman that took away their food stamps or kicked them out of their home.

Make their voting base as scared as they try to make us. Every minority should form an armed militia in their community.

Make it impossible to police. Cops don’t have to do their jobs, the supreme court said so give them a bigger incentive to not do it. If every brown person they see has a rifle and walkie they’ll just keep driving. If ever white guy that passes pulls over and starts filming and shouting, they’ll stop pulling people over.

Don’t stop there, get involved maliciously. Run against your mayor, your governor, your congressman. It doesn’t matter if you can win, just refuse to let them talk about anything they platform and shout over them with the vulgar accurate truth. No news would dare sensor a live debate where a candidate calls the mayor a cunt for supporting trump or says full chest that he’ll have every Nazi in the city charged with treason.

If the rules are only there for us, quit playing by them.

  • See, now this is a stance. I only had to skim your second reason because I already knew all that, fuck it’s even outdated. You could have just linked to the musk Nazi salute or a screen shot of a search for “musk naxi salute” showing that everyone here refers to it as the “salute controversy” like he used the wrong arm or something.

The thing is, this is a terrible way to actually do that. Not only is a meme not going to share anything heavy enough to stick, but the rest of the dipshits in this country already don’t do anything about our Nazi President. It might actually buy points for Ukraine to know he’s less of a Nazi than ours it.
