World News@lemmy.world•Doctors Without Borders suspends some work at Gaza’s Nasser Hospital due to presence of armed menEnglish
1·1 day agoMSF said it wasn’t able to indicate the armed men’s affiliation.
Since they have issued multiple statements against Israeli forces in the past, it seems likely that this is Hamas or another Palestinian group.
Same, my guys.
If you are already doing Jellyfin, you can sync as much or little to your phone as you want. Just use finamp. It’s a very nice player for Android that connects to your Jellyfin and allows you to download any synced music on the go or stream it directly.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Can anyone recommend any good science communicators for a 12 year old girl?
6·4 days agoYeah, she has faced a lot of criticism in the last few years; some of it undeserved, some entirely deserved.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Can anyone recommend any good science communicators for a 12 year old girl?
28·4 days agoSince I didn’t see many creators who are women, here are a few recommendations:
The Space Gal (Emily Calandrelli)
Emily the Engineer (content can be pretty rough - profanity and simulated danger)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What Fediverse instances would you recommend to others?
5·6 days agoIt basically works like that on Mastodon, but on Lemmy, etc. you will see most of the content of all federated instances.
It’s common for new users to overthink the choice of instance - it doesn’t make a huge difference for most users and you can always switch if you find a better fit in the future.
You can pick one that is local to your country/region, or if you have a special interest like art or environmental activism, you may be able to find one that specializes in that. Otherwise choose any instance that is stable.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•If you are not in a tech field, what got you into self-hosting?English
15·7 days agoLemmy has been a big part of it.
I’ve never been fond of paying big tech to spy on me. It has been getting gradually more expensive and more intrusive for years. Around the time I reached a breaking point, folks here helped me realize that digital sovereignty is possible.
One day I was just like, “Why does Google need to know when my lightswich is on?” And that was the start of it.

World News@lemmy.world•Putin thinks he can outsmart the US during Ukraine peace talks, a European intelligence chief saysEnglish
30·8 days agoUnfortunately he doesn’t have to outsmart the US. He only has to outsmart Trump.
Literally the things that are important to you. What do you talk about with friends? Most of those topics are a good start.
Fun fact: Monday is the only day in the Genesis narrative that is not described as “it was good.”

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What technologies are constant failures but we can't stop trying to make work?
3·11 days agoCould be, although we’ve had a few psychopaths in charge of world-ending nuclear arsenals and avoided the worst of it for now.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•In your opinion, what is the most convenient Lemmy web interface on a phone?
3·12 days agoI like Tesseract. Photon and Alexandrite are also great (although Alexandrite is a bit out of date, but I haven’t had any issues). Also check out Quiblr maybe. It has a very different feel.

For the record, I do agree. It’s worth occasionally thinking about the limits of communication, but it is the foundational technology of civilization.

I’ve been running Booklore for a while now, and was actually looking into calibre-web automated lol.
I’m interested if it has WebDAV support. It’s maybe a niche feature but I just discovered a great app that has it for backup option.
