Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Women who consider themselves unattractive, what’s something men don’t realize about how they treat you compared to women they find attractive?
9·3 days agoI have had relationships with men, but I’ve always been the initiator, including online.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was a good blog back in the blogosphere days? And can you still find it (archived or not)?
3·3 days agoPZ Meyers was one of the few big name atheists who remained respectable.
Eta: I say that, not having read from/about him in years, so I hope it’s still true.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Women who consider themselves unattractive, what’s something men don’t realize about how they treat you compared to women they find attractive?
23·4 days ago“Consider themselves” is an interesting phrase. I know there are women (and others) who think of themselves as objectively unattractive, but I think the majority of us simply recognize the way we are treated by others. There are times I think of myself as pretty or cute, but I recognize that being fat makes me considered unattractive by societal standards.
Anyway, as a result of those standards, I have never been approached by a man. I have had relationships with men, but I’ve always been the initiator, including online. And I’ve been told on lemmy that I’m clearly wrong because all women are drowning in attention from men. Which is just another way of saying people like me aren’t really women.

Dogs@lemmy.world•Do yall ever give your dogs "passes" for behavior you might not like but they seem to enjoy?English
12·9 days agoMy dog used to burrow under the covers. Now that he’s an old man, he doesn’t even get up on the bed or enjoy snuggling anymore. You will miss that burrowing one day.
That’s a lot of shade coming from humans drawn from memory.
If you taste like your name, I want a bite.

7·10 days agoBaking. It can be as simple and inexpensive, or as elaborate and costly as you want. It’s very beginner friendly. And even most of your failures end up delicious.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Has there ever been a movie set in a superhero universe that is about a non-superhero character?
6·13 days agoWonder Man has powers, but we see very little of them. It’s mostly about a persecuted minority trying to get work as an actor. Ben Kingsley is fantastic in the show.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•In a genderless and sexless society, what would pronouns be based on?
6·13 days agoIn T Kingfisher’s novel What Moves the Dead, society has extra pronouns for soldiers (and some other groups, but I can’t remember who; doctors maybe). So if you enlist, you’re not longer him or her, you’re ka.
Surprisingly, people can disappoint you after theyre dead.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What actionable steps can you take to build community?
6·14 days agoFriend of mine started a womens’ friend group in a small town. She posted the first meet up on Facebook, made it for a wine bar at a time not too many people would be there. She used an agenda, having us write and doodle answers to questions like “how did you make friends as a child?” “What has been difficult about making friends now?” “What kind of activities would you be interested in?”
Some of the hopes for the group included things like having a place to ask for help if you needed a ride or help moving a couch, or inviting someone to just hang out for moral support while you fold laundry.
The group set up a signal chat to make regular plans, ask for advice from people who had different experience levels, discuss current events, etc.
I would recommend doing this with some kind of narrow focus, like a particular gender or age group, or life stage commonality.
