I thought the same, but there may be a very specific combination of conditions where this could make sense: bad roads where ground clearance is needed, no sharp curves that require shorter wheel base, need to take 8 people and need to take their tools/materials. but probably they did just because they could

Honestly, those conditions sound like pretty much exactly what I’d expect working oil in Alberta, and given the cost to make that horrific of a modification, it wouldn’t suprise me if it was something used for work.

It also would not suprise me if it was some jerk with more money than sense, esspecially as this wouldn’t necessarily conflate with the first.

Yeah this seems way too expensive to not have a specific use. I would assume this vehicle needs to transport 6+ people and also a bunch of stuff. There are plenty of vanity trucks you can buy without customizing a third seating row, that’s easily a 6-figure job.

Oil patch boys came from away and they used to make 1/4 of their present income on the patch, where there is little to spend money on.

It’s really not that bad, cab n chassis frame for a 12 foot deck, put a box on, find a wrecked truck with a 4 door and cut off the rear section. A good body guy can pull this off cheaper than you’d think…if you started with a 5 year old quad cab and chassis and a wrecked from front end damage rear of cab fine body and box, you could get it done price of a new truck, remember new trucks are 150 grand in Alberta now, full load.

      Please.

I’m from Alberta. This is just big dick energy.

Besides, there are 4x4 crew vans with lift kits that the oil sands mines use to address the issues you’re talking about. Those are most certainly cheaper than this monstrosity, and if it was a work thing he’d have to have company decals on it.
