you would think that the likes of microsoft and google buying/builing their own dedicated plants would make this a moot point.

Just an uneducated guess, but stabilising your own plant with your power needs might be much harder without the grid behind you.

What was that study… if US loses 9 of it’s 55k substations simultaneously then the whole national electrical network would overload, shit would hit the fan and US could get 18+ month blackout from coast to coast. It’s not just about not being able to scale lake boiling amounts of AI-compute, but also a threat of emp strikes, domestic terrorism and solar flares.

that’s one of the reasons i’m frustrated about not being able to afford or have the space necessary for solar power, not even some kind of barebones setup to try and pay for the rest of the needed stuff later, instead i’m looking forward to bartering my neat looking rocks and art pieces made from literal garbage for rice.

They can’t stop or admit defeat because wallstreet is only keeping it’s head on top the water thanks to AI hype.

Meanwhile, energy prices in China continue to fall as a result of massive investment into renewables and solar now becoming a cheaper energy source than oil. https://financialpost.com/pmn/business-pmn/chinas-power-prices-nosedive-in-relief-to-tariff-hit-factories
