Your typical pancake recipe calls for oil or butter in the batter. But you can change that. I had an open jar of homemade applesauce. You can do a straight substitution of the fat for applesauce. Back when Google+ was a thing I posted about this and a hospital chef did a blind taste test with his staff. As a result he switched it to the default recipe for the whole hospital.

The average person and even super taster can’t taste the difference.

To make it just a touch more healthy feeling, but not really healthier, I used honey instead of syrup.

That’s one scrambled goose egg. It was free.

      It’s a very common substitution in boxed cake mixes too. You need to experiment because some you need to do half oil half applesauce but often you can do a full swap

        I mix from scratch. It was about 20 years ago that I gave my last boxed mix. That stupid blue and white box of cornbread. It was just so cheap and the closest to making it from scratch that it took me forever to just keep cornmeal on hand at all times.

        I actually did try using apple sauce instead of fat in cornbread. It worked nicely. But I rarely have an open jar of applesauce and I always have an open jar of bacon fat.

      A normal goose egg is the equivalent of three chicken eggs, except the yolk is disproportionately large and is about 1 and 1/2 chicken eggs in size.

    I use butter but I use whole grain flour instead of white. I like a mix of wheat, spelt, corn, oat, and buckwheat.
