Edit: just read the handwritten caption. “Na Bahia de Angra. Ilha Terceira” At the Bay of Bay, Third Island. Yes, the name of the Island is “Third”. Creative people these azoreans.
They ran out of names naming Porto ‘Antiga, Mui Nobre, Sempre Leal e Invicta Cidade’
So azoreans did not name Porto. But they might as well have given that’s just adjectives. The name of the city is Port. Because there’s a port in it.
Haha, it’s shortened to be fair. The city’s full name is Angra do Heroísmo, the “Bay of Heroism”, which is kind of a badass name.
That’s leaps and bounds better.
