I’m a computer toucher. I touch computers in ways you people couldn’t even imagine.

Factory labor, which I like way more than I thought I would. There’s something soothing about being able to quantify the work I do every day, and also I like being able to zone out while operating robots or putting in screws on an assembly line or whatever.

I am the mythical white working class who works in a union job in manufacturing. Got an associate’s degree way back in the day and then started working pretty much right away with minimal debt. I’d recommend that path historically, but given we no longer live in 2005, I can’t say whether it would still work.

Did janitor stuff for a bunch of years until chronic pain impacted my performance such that I got fired. If things go well I’ll be working either a weed shop or thrift store soon.

Club security, right now I work at a cool Chinese place i can ride my bike or walk to. I lucked out finding it honestly, it’s a nice place with chill people who rarely start anything and half my job is working on my chinese and politely declining cigarettes

Nope she’s hellbent on shoving me through the “Ableist Wing of the State”.

im on disability i have come to think that being unemployed is just about less bad than being employed for people like me but its still pretty bad

I’m also jobless. Largely due to my disability. It’s really hard to keep down a job with schizophrenia. I thought it’d be because people notice our symptoms and fire us, but for me I just can’t handle most work environments. I worked at an eye doctor for a little bit, and left after a couple months. There were a lot of reasons (one of the docs claimed HIPAA was just a suggestion) but I also really had a hard time functioning in the environment. After that, I had a cleaning job for a few years, but ultimately I was near having a complete breakdown (there were a few times where breaking down in tears halfway through was common) and I left that job too.

I studied chemistry in a lab overlooking a river, and i thought “this sucks i want to work in the river”. So i studied river engineering instead, worked in river construction, and now i sit in a cube overlooking a river. Womp womp.

Computer toucher. The work is boring and soul sucking but the pay is good at least where I’m from and I manage to get a job in a company where they don’t expect that much work from you. Part of me hopes The Market releases me from my misery and I’ll be forced to get an actually useful job.

Ideally I’d like to use my skills for something useful I like computers and programming but most of the jobs are just nonsense at this point, realistically there don’t need to be this many computer programmers most of the stuff the IT sector produces does not actually need to exist at all.

I work down in Eglin as a janitor

Sous chef. Only ever worked kitchens. I recommend it for a starter job or to anyone having a hard time getting work who needs some money. It’s the inly industry im aware of where the boomer method of just going to a place and asking still works. Interviews tend to be pretty minimal, just availability, previous experience, no bullshit maybe a couple questions to get a bit of an idea of your personality and if you dont seem like an immediate red flag they’ll give you a trial shift, which is paid, and if you dont totally crash and burn youre in. Generally you get a lot of free food out of it as well. A lot of kitchens will have the dishwasher do some prep work and stuff as well, you can learn a lot of food skills you can use at home by offering to help out cooks and learn techniques from em. Some places are toxic af but you can just like…leave. Any kitchen worth working at treats their dishwashers well. A really good dishwasher who can also have your back for prep or throwing together some salads or dropping an app in the fryer and setting a timer is fucking GOLD. The ones at my work have been my personal hero during desperate hours more times than I can count. Just covering odds and ends that would have added to already crunchy times. Don’t stick with it tho, the money never gets good even if you’re at the top of the ladder. Which sucks cause aside fro. The money, I do genuinely like cooking for a job and am really really fucking good at it. It can be frustrating and hard moment to moment but proper compensation would lighten that to the point I would enjoy it. It is hard manual labor, but not like…construction hard, if you dont make stsff meals at work and instead raid the equivalent in ingredients to make food at home you can get pretty fit doing it. I’ve got a good thief class body going from being in my feet and moving my arms around all the time
