I sometimes have the suspicion that corvids and octopuses are more intelligent than humans on a one-to-one basis, but are hampered by their limited ability to share culture and build upon knowledge generation on generation. Worse for octopuses because they are solitary and don’t parent their young after they hatch.

corvids (and other smart birds) are definitely smarter than humans when adjusted for brain size. mammal brains seem to be worse than bird brains.

if that’s the case than why didn’t the moa or whatever other extinct giant birds repel the ape invaders?

brain size is a pretty limited metric

Okay some people can play guitar with their teeth but it’d be unreasonable to expect them to build a whole civilization that way
