Edit: hmm, it redirects traffic toward the road with the bike lane. Shouldn’t it send them somewhere else, where there are not bicycles?
Also, it’s just plastic. It should be made of concrete.
They could learn a thing or two from Berkeley. There they install traffic diverters with 3 huge round concrete bollards. The bollards are hollow, so they double as planters. Bikes go through the bollard planters no problem. Cars are forced to turn. These traffic diverters are every few blocks. This is how they create “bicycle boulevards” that allow only local car traffic to homes, but 99% of the vehicles actually driving on the road are only bicycles.

The planned revamp echoes the “low-traffic neighborhoods” of cities like London and Paris, which have pioneered the use of diverters to keep through-traffic off local streets in recent years. Advocates have called on Mayor Mamdani to bring the low-traffic neighborhood concept to the Big Apple.
The city plans to roll out the changes in the fall and is also looking into future neighborhood-wide planning to improve pedestrian and biking conditions, including with “two-way cycling” infrastructure, according to DOT’s presentation.
