So this happened last night and I genuinely can’t stop thinking about it. We’re all just hanging out, and somehow the topic of breathing comes up.
Friend A says automatic breathing is objectively superior you don’t have to think about it, it just happens, it’s the most efficient system imaginable. Friend B fires back that manual breathing gives you control. You can pace yourself, deepen it, regulate it on command. Why would you ever give that up?
It escalated FAST. Friend A called manual breathing “a full-time job with no pay.” Friend B said automatic breathing is “letting your body run on autopilot like a NPC.” At one point someone said “you’re literally breathing manually right now just because I mentioned it” and the whole room went quiet because everyone suddenly became aware of their own breathing.
They’re still not speaking to each other.
What do you think? automatic? or manual breathing? are you breathing manually right now because you read this?
Out side of running or meditation the only times I’ve manually breathed was due to a weed induced panic attack so I’m on team auto.
Fucking hate thinking about breathing, always makes me think in dying or getting too much/little oxygen.
manual or automatic
Mechanical.

The amount of people thinking this is genuine makes me feel the need to say this is obviously a bit.
(This is not a judgment, I’m trying to help)
You ought to just make doing this your full-time job on my beloved Hexbear.net
I have actually considered how i could offer my services to those with problems deciphering sarcasm/facetiousness. My wife and i are the apotheosis of the ADHD + Autism couple and i find myself tasked with translating texts and emails for her.
I have a really hard time with structure and she is perfect for me in that way.
They both have their place and are superior in different contexts. Bada bing baby.
Can’t sleep without the one can’t swim without the other.
This is dialects.
I use a secret third thing.
It’s the ass thing, isn’t it?
Fully-automatic heartbeating will kill me one day. Manual breathing is the only control I have over the heartbeat - so I’m not giving that up.
Manual. I don’t want people knowing I’m breathing. Now I have the tactical advantage by choosing every breath. Whether to share it with them, or perhaps through karate take it from them.
manual is tough, because sometimes on a hill you slide backwards and that can be stressful in traffic
…I think you kinda need better friends, sorry. They literally aren’t speaking? They need to do better, this is shite.
And I thought our struggle sessions were silly lmao
I refuse to believe people are seriously talking about this subjectI’m on team auto because I can’t manually breathe while unconscious and I like sleeping
meditation and mindfulness exercises are basically manual breathing. would recommend learning manual so you can operate your equipment effectively under more circumstances.
My health insurance costs should be lower if I am a manual breather. I’m less likely to get broken into and stolen than an automatic
(but seriously automatic all the way I don’t have the brainpower for that)
I love automatic when it works. It randomly switches to mechanical and it takes a minute before I realized I’ve stopped.
To your friend’s point, the deep breathing is great for relaxation as well as resetting your automatic.
Discussing it like both aren’t essencial functions of your body is mind boggling to me
