They’re right on Slow Horses being on the list. Criminally underrated show, every single person I’ve introduced it to got instantly hooked.
This list was pointless. It really pushed the idea that it needs to be a drama or “premier” television first and then feels like they realized they were doing it and dumped a bunch of stuff they remembered after that fact towards the bottom, mostly pushing just recent shows they remember.
Like seriously no Scrubs? Avatar the Last Airbender? Planet Earth? Top Gear?
Items with far more cultural impact than Pen15. So this is a me opinion piece at best.

The Good Place should be much higher.
It seems there was a Bias towards anything that wasnt a drama.
For some reason the idea that you could laugh and smile occasionally makes a show worse to these idiots.

Deadwood at 24!?!? Fuck the New York Times. That’s inexcusable.
Edit: Also, The Wire is better than Breaking Bad, as is Better Call Saul, which they put at 27. And The Bear at 74!? I hate this list.
I thought Deadwood should be higher too, at least in the top 20, if not 15.
Fleabag at #5? I have only heard of the show in passing, I tried multiple times to watch it, never was able to get into it.

Same, I chalked up Fleabag to “it just must not be intended for me,” because I didn’t enjoy it. Like it if you like it, wasn’t for me. But calling it the 5th best show of the 21st century is wild.

As someone who loves firefly and is actually planning to start a rewatch later tonight…it’s really not that good of a show…
I disagree. I actually held of rewatching for a long time to get as much as possible the feel for seeing it anew again. Finally did it last year and wow. I mean we likely have differences in experience and opinion but literally each line of dialogue was often so good to me. I practically wanted to cry. its more than the story and I realize its common folk fare but its so rare to get a cast that jives so well along with scripts and characterizations that just meld. I am someone who is not going to put citizen cane in a best move ranking though.

Specifically, I would agree that the characters are pretty great and work very well together.
The rest, I would say is about mid for a TV show, but TV shows have also fallen off pretty hard since then. There’s a decent amount of campiness, which strongly contrasts with how firefly superfans tend to describe it. The fan base definitely affected my previously stated opinion. It’s a pretty good show, but it’s not a great show that I would expect to see on a top x list.
What the fuck where Supernatural? I would omit a few of these and they are missing some damn good shows. No WestWorld either, or Reacher, Jack Ryan. This list has like 6 shows I enjoyed and Justified should be higher. Also missing Expanse. Just missing a lot and has lot of shit to.
Fun to compare to the community tally,
No “Succession”, but I suspect there is some recency bias there. Because it’s a recent show people think, “well it’s great, but is it all time great?”
No Fleabag, Veep, 30 Rock, Curb, Atlanta, etc which are all comedy shows. The community does have “Community” and “Arrested Development”, but every other comedy is animated. I think it’s hard to think of a comedy as “the best”.

That’s the real scandal here. It’s the most rewatchable show I’ve ever seen. The biggest tragedy is we won’t know what Rusty and Billy were doing right before stepping out of Grover Cleveland’s Presidential Time Machine.
Most of my favorites are present, but that is all so entirely subjective. It seems like it is basically just a couple people ranking what they’ve watched lately.
I think I first heard this from the late Gordon of PC World. He used to say these types of lists were made not to be accurate but to intentionally rile people up for engagement. Of course, being the troll he liked to be, he also admitted to doing it.
