Confirmation bias (also confirmatory bias, myside bias, or congeniality bias) is the tendency to search for, interpret, favor and recall information in a way that confirms or supports one’s prior beliefs, values, or decisions. People display this bias when they select information that supports their views, ignoring contrary information or when they interpret ambiguous evidence as supporting their existing attitudes. The effect is strongest for desired outcomes, emotionally charged issues and deeply entrenched beliefs. Confirmation bias often comes from automatic mental habits.     Confirmation bias is a very pernicious human failing. Except in me. I’m basically immune to confirmation bias. Just think of all those times I was unbiased in my thinking. Yep, I’m pretty unbiased, alright.

    I used to try my damnedest to avoid this because the truth was supposed to matter. I’ve since learned from the power self-righteous control freaks wield over us all that it only matters when those involved have no power to force their preferred outcome. The truth still matters, but it rarely gets you anywhere when humans are involved. I don’t want to live in a world like this, so I’m just waiting for my body to catch up with my mind.
