Amazon has just announced two new Kindle Paperwhite e-readers. Now thinner and lighter, with a 7-inch flush-front display, up to 12 weeks of battery life, adjustable warm light, and waterproofing. The Signature Edition adds aluminum, adaptive front lighting, 32GB of storage, and ad-free reading. Both will be available for purchase on October 28th 2026, with pre-orders opening soon.
Don’t buy kindle unless you are willing to jailbreak it after they inevitably brick it on purpose when the next model comes out.
Matter o’ fact, don’t buy anything from Amazon
Hear here
Yup. I know of people on youtube who had an older kindle, it got bricked, so they bought a NEW kindle! Talk about a cult :/
The vast majority of Kindle-buyers and readers, don’t care about any of that. Amazon is #1 seller for a reason.
Amazon is numero uno because they cornered the market with good deals early on (at a loss), built a reputation for doing this whilst waiting for competition to die (at a loss) & then raised prices and lowered expectations (gaining)
Just like Walmart did (is doing)
Yep. Amazon also looked ahead and planned for where the market was going.
Amazon built its entire business around online shopping and kept pouring money into it while traditional retailers like Walmart and Barnes & Noble still treated the internet as more of a side business.
The bookstore, Borders actually fucking handed Borders.com over to Amazon in 2001!! LMAO Then they realized their fuck up and got serious about their own digital business and e-books way too late.
Jus like the Netflix vs Blockbuster story.
Lemmy can hate Amazon all it wants, but Amazon saw where retail was going, bet heavily on it, and it worked.
I think it’s a lot like Lemmy in that way. Lemmy would rather bitch about new tech, than take advantage of it. Just look at the hate hard-on that Lemmy has for AI. I see a lot of Lemmy posters saying they want to be amish, and give up tech. Yet they spend all day online bitching about it. lmao
You gotta be dumb as hell to buy a kindle after the shit they just pulled.
Most people who buy kindles don’t read up on news about kindle or sideloading, or anything like that. They buy it for books, read the books, delete the books, then buy more. Kindles aren’t really for the super techie crowd. They are for the moms who want to read some fun fantasy and stuff. They don’t take it seriously.
Lemmy takes shit way too seriously. The real world isn’t like Lemmy at all.
Having said that, I wouldn’t buy a new Kindle, but I know how dominant they are. I also still they think they are strong devices. But I don’t buy books with DRM.
Paperweight
They should have to tell you it’s bricked by date
Most of the people who buy Kindles don’t care though.
I don’t mean just for kindles
I see what you are saying and I applaud your efforts. But again, most people don’t care about stuff like that. You and I do, but most don’t, so it’s not something I worry about too much.
