Greetings!
Alas, the previous moderator became inactive, so I have taken over the moderatorship for now, but seeking volunteer(s) from the community to volunteers as moderators.
If you’re decently active on Lemmy and don’t have a modlog showing you’re a Bad User™¹, and are willing to check for reports daily or so - and handle them in a responsible manner (removing rule-violating posts/comments, not removing things that you don’t agree with but don’t violate rules². You also need ot have a lemmy.world account (this can be an alt that you just check daily for reports - because they won’t appear for you if your user is on another instance), please consider volunteering!
Moderating is usually not too difficult. Posts/comments get reported maybe around weekly or less, currently. So unless there’s a big fight where you need to step in, it’s not usually much to do.
I’d love to see a team of 2-4 willing to step up for this. And considering the community, I’d love to see most of those be women, but men are certainly not excluded in any way from volunteering. Diversity is generally a Good Thing™.
If you have any questions, or would like to volunteer, please leave a comment! Or have any other thoughts on the matter.
¹Yes, this is a subjective judgement. Go ahead and apply if interested, the worst I’ll do is decline :)
²Subjective removals are acceptable, of course!
Hello!
isveryloud@lemmy.world
Am non-binary, I moderate c/dogs, c/montreal and a few other comms.
I usually check modmail within 24-36 hours of report due to the delay in lemmy.world sending my lemmy.ca account reports. You would have to add both my .ca and my .world as mod.
Good luck!
Thank you, this comm looks like a battlefield 🫡
I’ve added you as moderator. If you ever need a hand, poke me and I’d be willing to be a mod underneath you to help out, or even just temporarily step in to help. But as you’re an experienced mod, I doubt you’d need or want my help - but this is one of those communities I do care about, so am willing. :)
Thank you for volunteering!
Thank you!
Do I have to pick other mods? I see that I am the only moderator at the moment.
Sorry for the delay, my inbox is overflowing right now. d’oh!
Would you like me to add the other volunteer from this thread? I’m glad to do so. Typically a single mod is sufficient for most communities, however it never hurts to have more than one, for sure. :)
I’d be happy to add them if you’d like :)
I’m okay for now thanks, was just wondering if that was the expectation haha
I’ll seek out another mod if it becomes a two person job I suppose
Note: There were multiple reports from a post back in September where someone was being a troll and uncivil in that thread. That user ONLY posted in this community. I have permanently banned them from the community.
Feminism can be a hot topic. It’s hard enough for me, as a man, and I consider myself a feminist. We all have slightly different views, so even before trolls come in, things can get tense sometimes.
What I would humbly request:
- Remain civil. If you can’t be civil, take a break.
- If there’s someone breaking rules, please report the comment (or post)
- Block the trolls. If they get zero replies, they die from lack of attention and move on eventually.
I would hope that anyone volunteering to moderate will do so with those as guiding principles as well. :)
I considered you a strong candidate, but ultimately went with the other volunteer. Thank you for volunteering!
I’m decently active but mostly a lurker. I’d happily help out as long as I’m not taking the position away from anyone else (I’m a man).
Usually I use this account to post but I’m fine with using another account on a different instance.
EDIT: My lemmy.world account is https://lemmy.world/u/NGram
I did end up going with the other volunteer, but it sounds like that might appreciate a helpinf hand - would you mind if I appointed you underneath them to help mod here?
While I’d love to, it sounds like they’re good for now and will find another moderator if/when they need more help.
Replying with my new lemmy.world account for posterity
Best of luck. It’s hard finding mods to take over (I’ve got a few communities I tried). I simply grabbed it to ensure someone was actually moderating it
