Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Pope Leo seems to be a nice bloke; yet he developed lung cancer. Other world leaders are killing people left & right, yet keep on living. How can this be explained, other than God doesn’t exist?
3·4 days agoAs an atheist, and a devils advocate (Gods advocate?? hmm), my friend used to tell me that God knows best, and every unexplainable events could be explained by God seeing further than us, therefore having a long-term goal. Meaning, to achieve this noble goal, it is paramount to bestow cancer upon the pope (suffering is closely tied to Christianity after all), while also keeping billionaires alive.

3·5 days agoThis looks ultra vibe coded. Can it really be trusted? It even had an “old formula” where it’s just 1B per day. Seems to me that the site owner just said “alright, replace the old one with a slightly more realistic one”.

Technology@lemmy.world•‘Pure insanity’: Mathematicians will need years to make sense of OpenAI’s latest dropEnglish
47·10 days agoI think OpenAI has retracted some of them already. For OpenAI it’s a really low-risk thing: if it’s wrong, then just retract the paper. If it’s right though, the fame all goes to OpenAI. Meanwhile, people who spent their whole life researching on this topic, needs to confirm this manually for OpenAI.

72·12 days agoAs much as I advocate for human written code, we should also acknowledge that AI has gotten way more competent recently, esp. on the coding front. I think security and vulnerability scanning, (maybe together with code review?), should be the few valid uses of AI.

1·14 days agoOff-topic (somehow?) but I’ve always loved the look and feel of GNOME 3.8. The modern GNOME is too minimal and too corporate. Seeing the old one evokes some warm nostalgic feelings of fiddling with CentOS 7 back then. So it’ll be kinda cool if we have something like this, but for GNOME. And also KDE 4!

I would assume the gov agencies self host their instances due to sensitive data. But even if they don’t, why not switch to self host?
