When us poors run into trouble, we have to deal with it immediately, without a chance to plan for it or save up for it or make other arrangements, so we have to buy the cheap boots, because we don’t have the financial buffer to absorb the impact of the 50 dollar boots on our budgets, even knowing it will save us money in the long run, because we’re living so threadbare that money is stretched to the limit.
I think Stardew and Rimworld are the only games i’ve played where the native linux versions werent completely fucked up and broken in some way.
So I pretty much always recommend playing the windows version via proton.

I wish it wasnt that way, Things should not just be repairable, they should be affordably repairable, because thats a major step towards dealing with a disposable society.
and lets face it, by the time its out of warranty and old enough to need any kind of easy repair… the replacement parts are probably gonna cost as much as a newer, much more up to date laptop from another company.

I run into the same problem with cellphones… I could replace the battery in mine and run it for another 6 years, or I could get a much newer (used) phone for the same price, and end up with a almost 100% new battery AND much better hardware.
but parts will never be made cheap enough to be reasonable and affordable, because people will just buy the parts and assemble the product themselves. So parts have to be at least as expensive as buying the new thing, if not more expensive, to discourage the act itself.
Who would have thought a more expensive, more premium product would have a hard time finding customers during a time when people are struggling to pay bills and cant even afford the non-existent dollar menu at mcdonalds anymore.

I made no such argument, overtly or covertly. You even remotely thinking that is a failure on your part, not on mine.
I have made one single, consistent argument this entire time… And that is to address the underlying cause at the root of the issue, instead of trying to put a bandaid on it. If you could snap your fingers right now and replace all plastic usage with glass without addressing the root cause, in 20 years time we’d be having the same argument as we are now, except you’d be demanding something to replace glass on the insistence of just using a better material will magically solve the problem.
The problem won’t be solved, until the disposable society issue is addressed and solved… and that has to be addressed globally. because it doesnt matter how clean and proper China, Canada and and Cameroon are, for hypothetical example, if other countries continue to fill their rivers with trash and poisons which end up flowing out into the oceans and becoming a global problem.

Glass doesnt magically make society non disposable. As I have said, repeatedly. Getting rid of plastic wont cure a disposable society, it will only just make whatever replaces plastic the new waste dejure to end up everywhere and threaten everything in its own new ways, until you fundamentally change society by having strict fines, personal repercussions, and public shaming. . as well as education and wide spread access of disposal receptacles, and a waste recycling system that doesnt just dump 90% of its collected recyclables into a landfill.
