It made me laugh when it was in response to someone getting mad at me after arguing, but occasionally I’d make a highly upvoted comment that was related to being trans or gay and then get them, and that pissed me off. It’s not possible to prove that’s what happened without access to server logs of course, but I for sure wasn’t talking about being depressed or suicidal or anything like that on Reddit, and it was suspicious at minimum.

I always knew I had won an argument when they stopped replying and I got the Reddit cares message. If the ‘report abuse’ link that was in those messages ever led to consequences I never saw it.

Out of the loop@lemmy.world•What's all the recent fuss about the number 67?English
7·9 hours agoHow many restaurants even have 67 or more menu items that you can select by number? This seems like a very niche ‘problem’ for the news to be concerned over
I think red-capped would be a good name too! In general I’m a fan of birds having as many common names as makes sense, haha
Red-bellied is completely accurate, you just normally don’t see the belly:

Red-headed was already taken:

Yeah, it’s from an infamously terrible Chinese bootleg of Revenge of the Sith, which they translated as “Backstroke of the West”.
Holy shit, I’d completely forgotten the origin of that meme.

Gaming@lemmy.world•What's going on over at dwarf fortress?English
30·3 days agoI’ve seen and picked up describing Rimworld as Dwarf Fortress for babies (positive). Sometimes I want a baby game! Like, 1000+ hours of a baby game. Don’t judge me.

Anthropology@mander.xyz•Study finds humans were making fire 400,000 years ago, far earlier than once thoughtEnglish
7·4 days agoChris Stringer, a human evolution specialist at the Natural History Museum, said fossils from Britain and Spain suggest the inhabitants of Barnham were early Neanderthals whose cranial features and DNA point to growing cognitive and technological sophistication.
Neat!
Oh damn, that’s really interesting about the squash leaves and raccoons. Those leaves for sure have an unpleasant texture, and raccoons are supposed to have particularly sensitive paws, so that makes sense. That’s really ingenious.
I’ve seen trails of paw prints and drag marks leading out of corn fields, where a raccoon has taken down an entire stalk and dragged it away with all the corn on it! A lot of work if you’re raccoon sized, but surprisingly smart.
I’ve seen roaches, which was gross, but never any bedbugs thank Christ.

Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•Crows are intelligent birds and learn quickly – even from each other. In Sweden, they are used to collect cigarette butts and bring them to a machine that automatically rewards them with peanuts.English
1·6 days agoImagine going outside for a smoke and the crows just start circling. Frantically puffing and fighting them off with your spare hand.
I refuse! I REFUSE!!

Archaeology@mander.xyz•New discovery of gold-decorated iron lances sacrificed at a sacred spring 2800 years agoEnglish
1·10 days agoI wonder if these lances and bowls were ever used for any sacrifices (the cooking pits nearby could be suggestive of animal sacrifice), or if they were purely symbolic objects created to be sacrificed?
Look for a creative reuse store for the art and craft version of this! I’ve got so much art shit on the cheap. So at least it’s less expensive for it to sit in the drawer 🥲

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is your opinion on Libertarianism?English
7·11 days agoSounds great on paper, in practice it’s almost entirely old white men who want to get rid of age of consent laws or people who want to be able to do insane, dangerous to others shit like feeding bears without anyone being able to stop them.
In summary, the ideology of selfish jackasses at best and pedophiles at worst.

I wonder if it was inspired by the columnar jointing formations you can find in Iceland?
