This is just a meme but a pretty stupid world view generally.

Games@lemmy.world•Gameplay mechanics were also a lot better with more replayability.English
131·2 years agoGames were definitely buggy and I honestly think people forget how much better the quality is nowadays.
I also think there is something to it just being the 90s or so and not having much choice. If you only have one game to play then of course you’re going to replay it to death. If I have a steam library of 1000 games then I’m much less likely to.
A lot of this is just nostalgia for the past and the environment as opposed to games being any better.

Technology@lemmy.world•Twelve years after the death of Steve Jobs, the cracks are starting to appear at AppleEnglish
0·2 years agoHe was very much the Elon Musk of his times, and it’s very possible he would have gone down the same route of extremist views and decisions that completely failed because of his egoism.
Some interesting points, and some things I disagree with.
Firstly it’s annoying he keeps calling it his idea and trying to enforce this concept that the current internet needs to align with his original goals. That’s stupid and ignores that things will go where they go, he can’t control them.
So his first point about centralisation being an issue isn’t that big a grievance. But his second point rings true - the issues around our data and advertising have grown significantly and the Web is getting much worse as a result.
I actually think the solution is just government needs to step in and regulate it, along the lines of what the EU is doing. Realistically I think that’s the only solution that’ll help. Doing some grassroots movement and hoping it picks up steam is just unrealistic. Like looking at Lemmy and Mastadon - they’re great but at this pace they’ll never take over the other giants in the space. You need someone to step in and force the change.
Not sure why downvoted… Main reason to have a pet pig is to grow it to eat it.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•GOG basically acknowledges piracy in a memeEnglish
4·2 years agoOP doesn’t understand the difference between piracy and drm-free.
But hey, looks like the advertising is working on you to promote GOG so good on them for a successful tweet.
Who gets banned from Reddit as a whole though?
You’d have to literally be posting child porn or something.
Or is this just a conceptual argument that doesn’t actually mean anything in reality?
Not sure I understand tbh. Seems exactly the same?
You get banned in a reddit community you can’t access it, you get banned in a lemmy community you can’t access it.
I’ve been banned from reddit communities and can still access reddit. If you’ve been banned from Reddit completely you must have done some terrible shit.
In your example, you’re also suggesting a transphobic person has more scope on Lemmy to continue being transphobic than on Reddit. That’s not a good thing?
I am quite confused by your post tbh.
Just be aware Lemmy has its own share of issues and extremist views. It’s not as simple as Reddit is evil and Lemmy is good, both have their pros and cons at end of day and realistically they both probably have a role to play for people.
It depends on the context as always.
Sealioning as genuine trolling is shitty and done in bad faith.
But it is completely fair to call out people and ask them for evidence when they make broad statements that are easily verifiable like “black people are more violent than white people” or “Republicans are just as unfriendly towards poor people as Democrats” Etc.
But yeah, here without the context it’s easy to get confused what Sealioning actually is.

Technology@lemmy.world•It’s Surprisingly Easy to Live Without an Amazon Prime SubscriptionEnglish
1·2 years agoThe crap people write nowadays.
It’s surprisingly easy to live without any subscription. I don’t have any. If you’re tech savvy you can either block most ads that subscriptions give you, or bypass the service entirely and get free premium or just dl videos/music etc.
And as the services get worse there’s little incentive to actually keep a subscription. Netflix is becoming pretty dogshit for example.
Who cares if it is on Steam or not though?
If everything was on everything then sure, that would be great. But that’s not realistic, and having this alternative where everything is on Steam but not elsewhere is not a good solution for that because Steam will be shit one day, and already has quite a few shitty issues.
Honestly, people have this ridiculous view of PC gaming and Steam sometimes. Look around the world and show me where having one company having a massive hold over that sector has ever worked out well long term for consumers.
Lol as someone else put it, it’s silly to complain that you won’t buy a game because it doesn’t use the marketplace you want to use.
Steam is just one marketplace and it needs competition. One day it’s going to go through enshittification and when that happens you’ll be thankful other marketplaces exist.
Sometimes I honestly wonder why PC gamers get so riled up over inconsequential things.

I think you need something like 1.6. No adware, no malware, just works fast and easy.

Technology@lemmy.world•AI-created “virtual influencers” are stealing business from humansEnglish
0·3 years agoAre you a boomer?
Just because you don’t like or understand something doesn’t mean it’s not a job. I think it’s a bit ridiculous myself but at end of day it’s no different to being a celebrity for whatever reason and it’s still a job.
Jesus lol.
This is probably true for big games, but I wouldn’t get angry at any small developer for not supporting Linux. It’s just not worth it/still such a small base.

Police can be corrupt and have issues, but a world without them would be fucked.
People act like it’s just as simple as removing police and the world would be amazing, but that’s the naive world view imo. You need to actually go through some shit to realize how important they are even if imperfect.
