Interoperability between messengers was already proposed, that’s why I mentioned it. But other than that? Are they proposing TikTok, Instagram and Youtube Shorts to somehow exchange content and let users from one service interact with content from other service? Messages have very similar functionality but other services not necessarily. What kind of interoperability are we talking about?
My previous company did some research on what distro should the offer employees and they picked Ubuntu. No idea what they were taking into account but for some reason Ubuntu looks attractive to corporations.
I think this is pure BS and trying to excuse stupid behavior. Never in my life did I ever hear an approaching motorbike, no matter how loud. Cars are well isolated, you have noise from the tires, some radio or music is usually playing or you’re talking to someone. Outside noises are barely noticeable. I can only hear the loud bikes when they are right next to me, not when they are approaching.

Nothing concrete. 3, 4 are mainly about enforcing GDPR. 2 is a job for public sector. All this is not really related to enshitification, it’s more about independence from US tech.
That leaves us with 1, which they describe as “It should be possible and practical to switch to alternative service providers, or tweak services they already use to suit their needs and preferences”.
Sounds great but what does it really mean? You can already switch to alternative provides. You don’t have to use Google or Facebook. Are they suggesting I should be able to move my facebook account to some other site? Which one? Other than some sort of interoperability between messaging apps I don’t really see how this would work.
Tweak the services? I don’t think trying to fix Big Tech is the right way to go. What tweaks would save Reddit for example? The issue was moderation and bots. What tweaks would fix Instagram?
I think the only alternative to current shitty internet is internet paid for by the users based on common protocols, self-hosting and federation. You want to post things on the internet? Host some open source service or pay someone else to host it for you. Most people will still prefer to pay corporations with their data and watch endless ads instead of paying directly to the service providers but at least there would be an alternative. And as Bit Tech enshittifies more and more people would jump to open source the way we’re seeing with Windows and Linux. For me, what EU should be doing is pouring money into open source project and hosting open source services.
Ubuntu is a distro for corporation, not individual users. It’s fine if your company gives you Ubuntu laptop managed by desktop support but you should not install it yourself on your private computers.

Probably difference between USA and Europe. In Europe beat up cars will not pass technical checks. To have a really loud car you have to replace the exhaust for the check and then install the custom one again. Only special kind of drivers have the time and will to do it. Mostly bikers.
I’ve seen data from Austria indicating that 70% of vehicles exceeding legal noise levels are motorbikes, 20% are cars, 10% are trucks and busses. Vast majority of loud vehicles are modified in purpose to make more noise.
Also, where I live loud vehicles will not pass annual technical checks so people put in legal exhaust for the check and then put the illegal, loud one back in. This has nothing to do with people not having money to fix their cars/motorbikes and everything with low IQ street racing sub-culture.
Modified exhausts are way louder than simply broken ones. Maybe 1% of loud cars I see are old and beaten up. In vast majority of cases someone paid extra to install custom exhaust.

The first part is very interesting. I can totally see myself in it. My parents never showed any interest in what I’m doing and now I live in a different country and call them once or twice a year. The rest is taking it too far for me. It looks like a recipe to bring up the kind of “I’m the best and everyone likes me” kind of kids I really don’t like. They grow up to be unbearable adults.

People seem to be confused. This is not Poland blocking EU defense funding. This is Polish president blocking access to EU money for Poland. It’s a internal thing affecting only Poland. There’s more money in the defense fund and other countries will access it without issues. The 40B was assigned to Poland which was supposed to be the biggest recipient but because of this veto they will most probably receive less. And it’s not a gift. EU is borrowing money and lending it to individual countries on preferential terms.
What? This is Poland making it more difficult for Poland to access preferential loans for defense from EU. This in any way affect EU or any other country. It can actually mean more money for other countries. Why would EU cut their funding over this?

We are a community of makers. We write our apps ourselves, we host our shit by ourselves, we stream our music and our movies by ourselves. So what should we do when bad corporations are taking away our snacks? Make them yourself!
Recipes are free and open. The tools are not expensive (not much RAM in the oven). There’s nothing stopping us.
