Some men misinterpret whatever complaint as being about them and turn defensive, and of course the most aggressive of those voices are amplified by social media. The inflammatory comments beget more inflammatory comments, reasonable people quickly exit the space and this is what you end up with.

I firmly believe it’s social media that’s to blame.

I mean yeah absolutely protest your bosses unethical behavior but don’t be surprised if they then kick you out. But that’s good, more media coverage for your stated goal.

They said the same when the crypto hype came along. If AI dies off there will be other trends in computing that require cutting edge silicon. AI may or may not continue surging but hardware will be needed no matter what. NVIDIA is selling shovels, not panning for gold.

What the left in Europe (well in my country at least) still doesn’t understand is that they’re not going to fix this by lecturing the populist voters about how all their thoughts and ideas are wrong.

The register is a tech magazine, so the DIY/3D printed angle is relevant here. It’s also relevant because it would, at least to some degree, allow someone to build it themselves in places where perhaps the legality of self determination is questionable. I looked at an “AAA” game maybe twice in give or take the last decade and both times have regretted it. Indie games are the bomb.

Most of the hate is coming from people who don’t really know anything about “AI” (LLM) Which makes sense, companies are marketing dumb gimmicks to people who don’t need them and, after the novelty wore off, aren’t terribly impressed by them.

But LLMs are absolutely going to be transformational in some areas. And in a few years they may very well become useful and usable as daily drivers on your phone etc, it’s hard to say for sure. But both the hype and the hate are just kneejerk reactionary nonsense for the moment.

Lemmy has a real problem listening to what people say and instead injecting their own narrative, and this is a great example. Where in my post am I defending conservatism or making any kind of statement as to “which side” produces more crazies? Fact is the has been the only assassination attempt in many years, despite an insanely vitriolic political environment. That goes to show even the crazies are not coming out en masse to start shooting at politicians.

I mean there was hammer guy, we can probably count him too but even so it’s pretty clear these are mentally unstable individuals, not the average conservative as Lemmy would love you to believe.

Nothing people love more than feeding their own narrative. The guy was clearly mentally unstable and in dire need of therapy. He could have been a communist or an ancap for all I care. This attack doesn’t reflect on anything other than the sad state of mental healthcare in this country.
