I really missed my deceased emotional support cat this week. (Don’t feel bad, he lived an excellent life and was happy. I hope I get to say the same years down the road.)
40% of voting women support trump
Necessarily that means most voting women did not vote Trump.
you might come across more like someone who genuinely cares, rather than someone virtue signalling for a pat on the back.
Nope. I’m going to continue supporting women as equal to men, I’ll use male and female as terms to describe both, and if I do so without your approval so be it. I know where I stand as someone who cares about people regardless of gender and recognizes women’s rights still have a way to go (and are under attack especially now). As such I don’t mind you trying to tear down my honest support as virtue signalling because it’s just not true.
<3 All love amigo, I totally understand.
I’d rather not post it because I hate it, but it’s not hard to find if you want. (BTW I’m not judging you at all for being curious).
Stop trying to force misogyny on me. It’s crazy that I tried so hard to convey the fact that women are valuable and needed, and now because of one word and the fact I play video games (and have for 25 years) you’re posting “got you” replies like I’m sexist.
Thank you for clarifying, I appreciate it. I didn’t know that, but I’m not going to stop using the word “female” for reasons I put in another post just above.
Well, thank you for clarifying at least. I’m not changing the wording. Let me be clear, I’m definitely not blaming you for being helpful - I appreciate at least knowing. However, if someone reads my post supporting and valuing women and the thing they comment on is the word “female” as if that makes me an incel misogynist, then I don’t really care. I wrote a post in this thread about the radicalization of men, and I used the word “male” 4 times. 31 upvotes, no downvotes (at time of posting) and no one had issue with “male”.
I support women and I never ever use the actually pejorative terms, but I’m not stopping using the word female. Incels use the word “women” too all the time btw. There’s even the famous coffee meme that uses the word “women” and I hate it because I’m a gamer and it’s always used in gamer communities to mock women.
Edit: After thought and given how people seem upset, I won’t post on this forum anymore. I’m sure there are some who will think “Bye - no loss” and it’s their right to do so and tell me so if they want. I don’t like that my obvious intent was overridden by the use of a very common word and it feels like a minefield I’m not interested in navigating. That “female” is an ok adjective but a really offensive noun just seems odd, especially when the equally-misused “woman” is fine. Hateful people say words hatefully and if you let them claim words there won’t be any left. I’d never hear something like “males are being pulled to the extreme right” and wonder if they mean humans (aka dehumanizing). In a lifetime spent with female friends and decades on boards like Reddit and Lemmy this is the very first time it’s been an issue. I have other thoughts but they’re not helpful so I’ll just say adios.
P.S. I’ll keep on supporting women in other places. I believe strongly that the only ethical position is that a person be judged by their character, and determined fit for any role by their capabilities as opposed to genitalia, ethnicity, preferred sexuality, etc. Regardless of people telling me they know my beliefs better than I do, I actually know what I believe - biases of all kinds must be fought, especially now.
I have no idea what’s going on with either of your responses (digging into what exactly?), but ok.
I feel that way about everyone.
? Is that a trigger word for you or something?
I agree that women are not going back “into the bottle” as it were. There definitely are females out there opposed to women’s rights (especially reproductive and career rights). They will be opposed by a greater number of women + the men who want women to meaningfully participate in society. A nation that refuses to take women seriously ends up cutting their potential leadership, ideas, production, and so on basically in half. Already we see women planning how they are going to resist misogynistic policies, and maybe they don’t need my support as a Canadian man but they’ve got it.
Biden has talked about ceasefires for a year now, and proven it’s just talk. Israel has crossed so many red lines it’s impossible to keep count, all with no consequences. Harris said she wouldn’t change a thing and her campaign made sure people knew she didn’t support an arms embargo on Israel. You can gaslight yourself all you want about her intentions, but her actual words -promised- more of the same.
Trump is awful, but telling people the Dems presented any meaningful opposition to ethnic cleansing or that Harris made it clear she’d be better is propagating a convenient lie.
I loathe the comments saying some version of “I hope everyone who didn’t vote for Harris gets what they deserve”. Dem bullying and refusal to stop 100% support of war crimes (including domestic protest suppression/condemnation) alienated a crucial part of their base, but apparently it’s still not their fault. Now there’s bitter folks here taking a sick satisfaction telling people they’re going to suffer and consoling themselves by viciously insulting everyone who didn’t fall in line.
Apparently when the horrors happen it’s not because Harris ran a shit campaign courting conservatives, didn’t listen, and promised more of the same (or even a slide right) as Biden, a president with an approval rating in the 30-40% range. It’s not because she refused to promise an immediate stop to support of war crimes as per America’s own laws. It’s the fault of everyone who refused to vote against their conscience because a “lesser evil” platform didn’t convince them to support a party of unrepentant war criminals.
Downvote me all you want and tell me how idiotic I am. I told people urgently to vote Harris right up until the election, but I also always spoke out against bullying on Lemmy and it’s only gotten worse post-election. The people in this thread talking about how others are going to get what they deserve are abusive people and I don’t want to be associated with them anyways. Their disapproval is something I’m proud of.
Scholar’s Lore is crazy good for that. I don’t listen to anything during a night’s sleep, but I love settling in for a nap with his channel going. Listening to the horrors of an unforgiving universe is so calming… Then I wake up and listen for real.
Foreign Minister Israel Katz, known for his hawkish stance, is set to replace Gallant.
If Katz is even worse, that’s bad news. It’s not like Gallant was a kind or just man. Gallant is the one who announced a “complete siege” on Oct. 9th, 2023 with no electricity, food, or fuel allowed into Gaza. He said the Gazans were “human animals” and would be treated as such. He set the stage and attitude for many of the Israeli war crimes of the last year.
I’d find it odd if I enjoyed the same things as much now as I did when I was say, 6-12 years old. Games and shows for kids are meant for a child-like mind. You can still appreciate them for what they are - I’ve watched Lazy Town with my nieces and enjoyed the quality of the music and Stefán Karl Stefánsson as Robbie Rotten. But I’m not sitting down to watch it on my own.
Plus game design and definitely graphics can improve over time. E.g. I loved Golden Eye on N64 as a kid, but if I replayed it I think nostalgia would be doing a lot of heavy lifting. I replayed FF7 Classic a year or two ago and did not find it nearly as compelling as I did when I was 16. It was still alright, but it didn’t amaze me the way it did in PS1 days.
Reminds me of a quote from a Warhammer 40k book. “When the stars fell, when the seas boiled and the earth burned, my faith didn’t die. That is when I began to believe. God was real, and he hated us.”
