Technology@lemmy.world•Was the whole TikTok drama a bait-and-switch to make Trump look good?English
18·1 year agoThanks, I’ll field this extremely easy question - By executive order before it was a bipartisan bill supported by every level of government:
To me, making sure that everyone agrees with a new policy before it becomes law, and sending it through the proper channels to be debated and then enacted, doesn’t really seem like a dumb thing.
The dumb thing would be to propose a new law, enact it unilaterally, have it revoked because it was enacted unilaterally, then have everyone agree on it anyway when you pass it through the proper channels, then toss it in the trash yourself at literally the first opportunity.

25·1 year agoWhich part of Trump proposing, implementing and then yesterday delaying the ban was down to Democrat incompetence?

Technology@lemmy.world•GTA 5 Liberty City Mod Taken Down by Rockstar Games - IGNEnglish
13·1 year agoIt’s totally understandable why people do this, but my advice would be stick to small mods.
As soon as an add on is large enough to be a DLC, or even its own game, big companies are 100% coming after it. Especially if it is a popular game and it gets in all the gaming press like this.

9·1 year agoI was under the impression it was meant to be Vice City. They’re just not very friendly to modding in general.

12·2 years agoWasn’t that Quake, not DOOM?
Do you have some factual evidence to refute it?
By Gods, that is an official document from what is supposed to be an oversight committee? It reads like a biased propaganda sheet with no references and spelling mistakes everywhere.
I see it says 8 million “migrant encounters” yet there is no source for that figure stated (only numerous other reports from the same committee). Is it 8 million different people? Did they all come in this year? Who is reporting the figure?
Also I’d like to know the definition of a “migrant encounter”. That doesn’t even state they are illegal migrants, or that there was anything illegal about the encounter. Who are they encountering?
Fact check: what are the numbers on “ridiculously high levels”?

35·2 years agoYou, like most people in this thread, are confusing support for a person with support for a form of punishment which is humanitarian and rehabilitative, rather than vengeful and punitive.

9·2 years agoI get your point, but a convicted criminal who is rehabilitated could also be considered a good role model. Not saying he is, but not really a means to disqualify him.

4·2 years agoWell on that same vein, the IOC unilaterally disqualifying a country’s chosen athlete is likely to be even more politically problematic.

1015·2 years agoI mean that is the idea of rehabilitation, yeah. I don’t know where you are getting “under a month” from. He was in prison for 13 months and was released on parole, which would probably also include some rehabilitation activities.

193·2 years agoNice slogan, but back in reality, there’s a phenomenon documented in psychology literature called Projection. It’s usually those who rabidly accuse others and calling for harsh punishments that are guilty of those same behaviours they are condemning.

This is going to make for one unstable water balloon.
