There will probably be a new constitution written with a weaker Presidency, or the office of president eliminated with executive power vested in the prime minister. The office of president of the fifth republic was essentially designed for Charles De Gaulle, and thus has a lot of power, but the current political crisis is caused by Macron’s inability to work with the current parliament and his refusal to leave office, creating a situation where forming a government is impossible. A sixth republic theoretically wouldn’t give the president the power to create a crisis in this way.
The Black Book of Communism is full of lies and exaggerations, so it’s not a model to follow. But I get that you want to dive into the “capitalist death toll,” and a good book on that front is Late Victorian Holocausts by Mike Davis.
He seems to have retired into obscurity after causing the 2008 recession. Which actually makes him one of the very few people in the US power structure to take any kind of accountability for any sort of failure.
