  • You can totally make programs to scrape the internet for places that have posting functionality, crawl the scraped sites, and auto post. These already exist, and you can buy them, or get them shared to you from various sources. Most of these sites use template software to run their sites. It is not nearly as difficult as people might think to accomplish this. Bot traffic is 50% of internet traffic.

Is there a group somewhere, sitting in a government facility, working on how to best infiltrate Lemmy? I really doubt it. Do these places have general function bots that make it on to lemmy, and even smaller places? Yes. In fact, bots are causing a growing number of small sites to experience what is, essentially, DOS attacks, because of how much traffic suddenly hits the site once the scrapers/auto account makers/etc. have found it.

  • All of these comedians who whine about not being able to say things, and being so brave to go ahead with their bigoted material, all just wish they were Lenny Bruce. Lenny was funny, said the truth, and while some stuff wouldn’t fly today, he was very progressive for the 50’s, and early 60s. He literally had police camp out his shows to arrest him as soon as he started saying something they didn’t like. He was actually getting beat-up by police, expelled from countries, and making land mark civil rights law, because of his routines.

  • I have done this. I have told them not to post me shit from channels, and topics, over, and over. Best it seems it can go is like 2 months. When I tried deleting my history, and turning it off, it got SO MUCH WORSE. Even making a new account was orders of magnitude worse. As sad as it is, I am actually getting a better result… I have long been at the point where I do not click on things I am not familiar with, or without suggestion from a trusted source. So I just don’t look at recommended anymore. Just look for the indicator of new stuff from my subs, or look at things I specifically search for.

  • For a very, very, long time it was considered proper to hit your family, as the man of the house, to keep everyone in order. If the patriarch was hitting you, you needed discipline, this was a god ordained arraignment, so what were you doing against god to deserve this wrath? Domestic violence was crazy high compared to today, as late as the 1990’s. Also drinking rates have fallen greatly, especially since the 18th century.

Being a woman in these romanticized times meant you couldn’t have any sort of credit, you couldn’t hold a bank account, you couldn’t vote, violence towards you, from your family was not criminal. Until the 1900s women couldn’t legally own, or rent, property, except under specific conditions (inheritance, gift from their husband, tenement housing built specifically to house women alone, that sort of thing). Even though it was legalized int he early 1900s, it was also legal to discriminate against women, in that way, until the 1970s, in a lot of places. It was far more common for men to drink, and for men to beat their families, and they had few, to no, legal ways to create independence from their husband. So they were stuck there.

pictures of a c-section, vs pictures of a mangled corpse in a car wreck, is an apples to oranges comparison. I think you wouldn’t want to see a surgery, and you are really stretching to make it seem that anyone who would, is a bad person. Pictures of these things are common, lots of people film, and photograph, births. Many people are fine with recordings of their medical procedures, for both personal, and educational reasons.

Just because you don’t like something does not make other people bad for finding interest in it.

It’s not a crack. This is a grand canyon scale chasm. The decline of the opinion of the police closely follows the release, and reporting, of crimes, and other unethical behaviors, of police. When BWC first started, it was a boon to the reputation of police. However, as the general public has been more able to record police themselves, which strips the police’s control of the who, when, how, and editing, of the recordings the public sees, the opposite effect started to happen. Now the police are working, furiously, to prevent people from recording them, from publicly releasing recordings of police for various reasons, making it harder, if not impossible, to attain BWC footage, and straight-up stopping the use of BWC. A lot more than that is going on. There has been a deluge of leaks of internal communications, amongst authorities, across the country, that are clearly stating that the cops should continue using unconstitutional practices, and that the government, at least locally, would have their backs. Then there is the leaking of footage from some of the most popular training regimes, and conferences, for police that are way out of line, showing they are clearly being trained to view the entire public as the enemy, and that it is fine to kill people, because the cop going home at the end of the shift, is the most important thing there is. This is just the tip of the iceberg of reasons why the police are losing favor.

The police, the courts, the legislature, are who is responsible for the public outcry against the police. Not Russia, not China, not any foreign power.

  • I think that is because most people are only aware of its use as what are, effectively, chat bots. Which, while the most widely used application, is one of its least useful. Medical image analysis is one of the big places it is making strides in. I am told, by a friend in aerospace, that it is showing massive potential for a variety of engineering uses. His firm has been working on using it to design, or modify, things like hulls, air frames, etc. Industrial uses, such as these, are showing a lot of promise, it seems.
