I’m glad the storm spread out a little before making ground fall. I don’t have the requisite knowledge to know whether he’s making a credible claim about the mathematical limits of storm intensity, but if it is accurate, the fact that we can go from “tropical depression” to “literally the strongest storm the planet can sustain” in 24 hours is fucking wild.
Which is ironic…any company that would brag about employees working at their own wedding screams “burnt out employees and insider threats” to me.
Isn’t route design/planning part of a public transportation system? And even if it weren’t, it’s still a real and valid issue that would need to be addressed. Even if the plan is just to force everyone into high-density housing against their will, you still have the last mile problem, just like cable and internet companies. Either the bus stops at every building (and is therefore too slow to be useful) or some people have to walk farther than others, which is fine for most of us, but disabled/elderly/injured people shouldn’t be further disadvantaged as part of our transportation strategy.

My wife always gets mad at me when I leave to buy groceries and come back with lotto tickets instead. No matter how often I explain that if we win the lottery, we’ll be able to buy even more groceries than we could have with the money I spent on the tickets she’s pissed off the kids are hungry now. Societal consequences obviously don’t motivate much of the investor class, but financial ones do.

Yeah, this definitely feels like a doctrine and training problem. I can’t even imagine a scenario where the US or NATO lost half of any platform like that. Pearl Harbor, maybe? I remember how huge a deal it was when we found out our body armor and APCs sucked in 2001, and that was nothing like losing every missile ship.
Yeah, as long as we have Musks, Zuckerbergs, and Shkrelis in the world, we’ll always need a public entity strong enough to act as a counterbalance. I can’t imagine an entity other than “government” to do that.

I was doing full stack dev for 20 years until very recently. Never needed anything beyond basic algebra EXCEPT for while I was getting my CS degree…had 2 classes, i think, where we were doing matrix math/Fourier transforms, but iirc they were electives…one was writing a very basic 3d graphics driver and the other was working with very simple computer vision…things like recognizing handwritten letters.
