Apple@lemmy.world•iPhone Air Sales Are So Bad That Apple is Delaying the Next-Generation Version
5·2 months agoI used my 8 plus (or whatever the flagship was at that time) for 8 years and for 7.5 years the battery was fine. In the last six months I had some issues when it died before the alarm went off, hence the new device. I do miss the fingerprint reader and 3D touch though.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•The notion that "old is bad and new is good" is a seriously damaging part of western capitalism brainwashing
3·5 months agoI really wish emissions/efficiency/reliability restomods became more common. Fuel injection and a modern cat can really improve an old car.
I’m kind of worried what I’ll drive in 20 years time. There aren’t a lot of cars I like that came out after 2005 and I need to find a way to keep stuff running.
So far I like this version the best. However, someone put up the human rights logo and I think it would do quite well here, since it’s a dove (as requested), but also looks a bit like a hand. Another request was the color black. Maybe make the pupil black? Pretty sure that covers the commitee’s requests.
Edit: something like this

Casual UK@feddit.uk•Why do people always say to "stay still" when you're being pestered by a wasp?English
2·6 months agoI’m over thirty and I’m proud to stay that I can outrun a yellowjacket anytime. In fact, I’ve done it several times last week, much to the pleasure of my spectating colleagues.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If you're wearing sunglasses when you're out, do you take them off when going into a store or do you keep them on?
3·7 months agoA few years ago, I went out and brought myself a nice pair of perscription sunglasses, trouble was I didn’t have any spare cash to buy regular glasses. So, for about 2-3 years I had shades on everywhere I went, day or night. What I noticed is that if you’re confident enough people don’t really mind or act any different. Now that I have both, I easily keep the sunglasses on without noticing and there is no fuss usually unless I go into a bank or something.

2·8 months agoI have been exploring Marxist thinking deeply in the past but not for the past few years. True, it might be something to go back to sometime.

2·8 months agoI feel a little bit like I was duped by ml. Chose it because the devs were here, but I haven’t thought about the top level domain until I saw their profile pictures. Now, I’m no stranger to leftist views, but I’m pretty far from being ml. I might switch if things get ugly, but I can take some minor stigma for a while longer.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Anyone ever want to pirate for moralistic reasons?English
21·8 months agoSpotify only pays for the first few listens I think. Also, the payout is a fraction of pennies.
I have a T14 gen1 ryzen 7 (only 16G of ram for now), with integrated graphics running bazzite. Civ 5 and 6, rimworld, FTL run flawlessly. Anno 1800 is a bit laggy, but playable. I also do some sim racing and no complaints there either, if graphics are set just right, so I think that the bar for hardware is pretty low. As for hardware, not sure what I’d go with, but I’m sure there is no need to go overboard. For software bazzite is amazing if you want near hassle free gaming.
As for accessories I have a keychron keyboard which was a worthwhile investment and a Mionix 3200 mouse that’s over 10 years old, still amazed at the build quality and value for money. A good keyboard mouse combo is invaluable.
I’m yet to try BeamNG, would be cool to test some cars I built in Automation. I was a bit hesitant about AMS2 for some reason, but might as well give it a go. Although RBR would be the priority now.
Thanks for the awesome writeup! I’ll get to it next time I have a chance. Maybe it’s time to join the bazzite discord.
I think you might’ve just saved me there. Will give modprobe a try in the afternoon. Thanks a lot!
I was under the impression that new-lg4ff cannot be installed due to the immutable nature of the system. What I don’t understand is that dirt 2.0 works beautifully and from what I read on forums and protondb simracing is doable on linux, but all the positive stories came from people running traditional distros. I’m leaning on dual booting though, it just feels yucky.

Europe@feddit.org•New Refrigerators, Washing Machines, Furniture and Tires Will All Have to Last Longer, Europe MandatesEnglish
1·9 months agoI believe that tires will go a long way in terms of wear and longevity (as we’ve seen in the past 100 years), but not sure if more grip and less rolling resistence (efficiency) is possible.
