  • Several democratic governors sued over the tariffs. So far the court has declared the tariffs to be illegal, but is for some reason allowing them to be collected while the case is appealed.

The gov of Maine sued him for withholding federal funds over having trans athletes and won.

The NYTimes has a pretty good article tracking the myriad of suits against him. They mention that 184 of them “have at least temporarily paused the administration’s initiatives.” https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/us/trump-administration-lawsuits.html

A handful of senators and state legislators have attempted to visit some of the prisons/ICE detention facilities, starting with Chris Van Hollen, who flew to El Salvador to see Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

David Hogg is attempting to primary the old do-nothing dinosaurs in the party.

I think right now we’re all looking to California to see what they do in a literal military standoff with Trump. I don’t know if it will be enough, but I don’t think it will be nothing.

  • Ohhh. As someone who also went through an editing program recently, yeah, I think AI has taken a lot of those jobs. Are you a member of any editing guilds like the EFA (if in the US)? They seem to have more one-off jobs for freelancers, but there was a regional guild I was part of that posted more corporate editing jobs, which maybe sounds more like what you’re looking for. But right after AI got big it quickly became apparent that even the experienced freelancers were having a hard time getting steady work. I wish you luck. At least you have a good chunk of experience. I gave up because I didn’t have any.

  • But how do they know which email that might be? Do they even know which of my accounts are for business or personal use? If I send an email from my business email to a bunch of friends and relatives to plan a party, will Google assume those are subscribers and pull my party-planning content from my email and put that info… somewhere… on my business page? I don’t want them reading any of my emails, ever.

The email from Google was laughable in that it contained almost no info on how this process is supposed to work. All it means to me is that I don’t have control over my own content. This should have been opt-in instead of opt-out.

How would it help to leave? Lots of cowards have already done so. Have you ever considered that maybe it’s because so many progressives are leaving that now we don’t have the numbers you want to see when we protest? That the people who would have been protesting are already gone?

I’m fully willing to die fighting fascism in this stupid civil war, but it isn’t a war until we get some governors and coast guard on board. Until that point, anyone who does anything violent is just a ‘lone terrorist’ and will probably be disappeared to El Salvador.

Leaving is not speaking out. Leaving is not fighting. It is only for your own survival, and it leaves the rest of us with less to fight with and less to fight for.

  • They are and they do, but this example is extreme. Having been on both sides of this, I’d say no one should have to live their life in fear of every little interaction. It’s exhausting, and you will never succeed in getting every person to leave you alone anyway. But this doesn’t have to be “the way it is.” You can actually change and make your life easier. Sometimes it takes help and a long time, but I believe most people can do it if they really want to.

  • Corps have been complaining for years already that people aren’t buying enough. Millenials are killing this industry and that industry because we don’t consume enough - “enough” being whatever level they’ve decided we should consume. They feel entitled to our dollars, whether or not their product or service is any good.

If they were smart, companies would lower prices to be more competitive and incentivize people to buy more. Instead they’ve doubled down and posted armed guards at the store exits to intimidate the customers they have left. They’ve slipped data collection into every interaction. It’s pretty obvious they’re not playing the long game anymore.
