  • I’m running a fever and as such can’t reasonably give this a good read.

That said, this handwriting on the sign is totally weird. The style seems to attempt Suetterlin, but that’s out the window once the lowercase e’s don’t look like n’s or r’s. Then we have the internally consistent umlaut styles that don’t make sense (just as common to draw a contiguous arc over an ‘a’ as a ‘u’ circa 1995).

I had to learn Suetterlin for classwork in Gymnasium. My cursive was apparently unintelligible. I’m back to “normal” except for how I write my 1’s.

  • I’ve been in Texas for 11 years, and I gave up on voting. City Council? Whenever we vote progressive candidates in and they do something progressive, Abbott calls the Legislature into special session to make those laws illegal at the state level.

A good example is when the City of Austin implemented a ban on single-use plastic shopping bags, which given the production of said bags set the O&G lobby into overdrive.

County? Well, my vote doesn’t really count there, as Travis is overall aligned with my political views. State? Nah, gerrymandering split the city into I think now five districts at the federal level of unusual shape to dilute Austinites’ voices by including sparse areas 10s of miles away. Federal? We just redistricted. Senate could be interesting

There’s a reason I chose journalism. Voting harder clearly wasn’t going to help even in college.

  • There are so many issues with my educational experience that I don’t know where to start. I was sent to the principal’s office for claiming negative numbers existed in first grade. The next year, my parents enrolled me in a night class at ASU for intermediate algebra. Back in elementary school, best they could do was sixth-grade math – i.e., not even prealgebra. It took six years – until eighth grade – for me to progress in math from when I was fucking 7.

By high school, I was considered an excellent math student, and I was told two specific things from other departments: Don’t go into writing or publication design – you’re a math student who’s terrible at both.

Of course, when I won national awards for both and rubbed their noses in it when back home visiting my parents, they tried to do the whole “we knew you had it in you all along” thing.

Yeah, no. I don’t like regurgitative analysis of 19th-century works, and your yearbook design sucks. That’s on you, not me.
