They/Them

“There were two “Reigns of Terror,” if we would but remember it and consider it; the one wrought murder in hot passion, the other in heartless cold blood; the one lasted mere months, the other had lasted a thousand years; the one inflicted death upon ten thousand persons, the other upon a hundred millions; but our shudders are all for the “horrors” of the minor Terror, the momentary Terror, so to speak; whereas, what is the horror of swift death by the axe, compared with lifelong death from hunger, cold, insult, cruelty, and heart-break? What is swift death by lightning compared with death by slow fire at the stake? A city cemetery could contain the coffins filled by that brief Terror which we have all been so diligently taught to shiver at and mourn over; but all France could hardly contain the coffins filled by that older and real Terror—that unspeakably bitter and awful Terror which none of us has been taught to see in its vastness or pity as it deserves.” - Mark Twain

  • I’m gen Z, I’m gay, and I do crime :3

I was raised by boomer parents though, i think what pushed me to liberatory ideologies (i’m a communist) is the complete disconnect between what my parents believed was reality and what reality actually was for normal people. They got that middle class life, it was practically handed to them and they just assume it’s that easy for everyone else. Drives me up the walls

  • why can’t people be like that now?

A historical aberration known as the middle class was intentionally developed in response to the threat of communism which developed a corresponding ideology of rugged individualism, personal responsibility, and the common self perception in the working class that they are only “temporarily embarrassed millionaires”. All in concurrence with the destruction of third spaces, unions, and communities founded upon mutual aid.

In short, we have a lot of unlearning to do.

  • Fascism cannot be stopped with your vote. Hitler wasn’t elected and he certainly couldn’t be removed by election. This is the same for Mussolini, Petain, Franco, Hirohito, etc. We don’t “show up” IRL to vote against fascism because we recognize it is a ridiculous exercise in futility. We do show up IRL at our political organizations which lead protests against the Palestinian genocide, fascism, ecocide, the illegal blockade of Cuba and so so much more. Not only do we educate people politically and agitate within our workplaces and community spaces, we (attempt to) build lasting parties that materially provide for the communities they rely on. So far we haven’t had great success and overthrown the bourgeois state, that is because things take time and we are faced with both very powerful enemies and a very well conditioned public.
