It also exploits another person’s tragedy to make it about themselves taking away from the tragedy to focus on them. It’s narcissistic. And it’s reductive of tragedy. If speaking of third world problems should only be to focus on them. Not to take something from them for yourself.

    “You should be grateful”

If it’s about trite platitudes and gratitude, go make a list. Find another way to teach that. When the topic is about someone else’s tragedy, get out of yourself and pay attention to those around you more.

“I have to remember so blessed when I think of someone else’s tragedy”

If you need a boost, Count your blessings against your own gamut of success. No need to compare and push yourself in front of someone else’s gamut all just to feel good about yourself.

  • I’ve seen bmws get plowed by distracted drivers. But that’s the thing: Cars aren’t empty machines. They are operated by humans. As are cyclists, cyclists who should also practice the rules of the road.

As a fellow cyclist myself , I am disappointed by your intellect on this one.

  • What a perspective to hear for the day…

      • A couple of people who were close to me just died so no,I will not be wanting to come back to this moment. I’m actually looking forward to aging. Means I can get some time between myself and the event. We age every day. Aging is easy compared to this particular experience.
      • And as far as looking back to previous experiences,no, life is very very hard for some people and struggle will be there. If we’re looking at it as “oh I survived a beat down easier back then cuz I was so much younger oh but I also didn’t have any autonomy in some of the wretched situations I was in” I don’t think that is the measure for a great time.
      • that platitude is ageist. Aging shouldn’t be looked at as something to be disappointed with. If anything it will be better in that you can have more experiences to look back on that were positive. And happy that it happened. Not needing to go back to it. Something seems clingy with time on that one and that seems mentally and emotionally unhealthy. Additionally aging is a privilege if you last long enough to age well. Look back to better experiences. Not just ‘better physical health’.
      • it’s a miss take on what defines as better health. Youth anlone isn’t necessarily a decent measure for better health. And mental health can change as you age. Sometimes for the better as we get more experiences to challenge hard inner dialogues. A lot of people can become much healthier (both mentally and physically) as they grow older and gain better perspectives to apply to their current moments not just past ones.

  • It does happen often. Many Cyclists often do not obey road rules. ‘Rules are for thee and not for me.’ And it’s hilarious you think anyone that entitled has any self observation enough to think they would look bad while doing so. Riding a bike should absolutely require a license to be out on the road.

So you’re assuming the bike was in a car lane instead of a car trying to drive in the designated bike lane?

You’re picking and choosing assumptions that suit your preference.

Considering the car was going 70 in a thirty it doesn’t sound like he obeyed the rules of the road.

Nor did the cyclist. Two wrongs don’t make you right.
