I’d like to learn enough biology to cure aging and cancer. But first the politics need to change, so that’s my priority.

11·2 months agoSeriously. Sucks that shooting ourselves in the foot for the culture war seems to be near universal for the information age.
I haven’t seen any proof he did do it either. If we’re weighing the circumstantial evidence available? There’s much more pointing towards that dog being treated well than poorly.
I have also seen a lot of proof that there is a targetted smear campaign against him, which leads me to be a lot more critical of all the info presented by both sides.
A perfectly reasonable take! I tend to have opinions on public figures because I do think accountability of some kind is more important for them than others. I’m not a fan of ‘cancel culture’, but the inverse of it, which allows a felon as president, is not desirable either.
Just to combat misinfo, Hasan clearly did not shock that dog

1·3 months agoI think we all agree on that. It’s just nice to make sure the truth is conveyed. I read that line in particular, and given Israel’s deeply troubling history, instantly worried about sexual assault.
You’re poor.

3·4 months agoIt’s such a minor part of the video that I didn’t put too much thought into it, but ironically the point of the video is that we shouldn’t overlook small ‘glitches’, so you’re quite right to look into it critically I think!
The video is more focused on the history of Israel, and computation’s role in that. With that in mind, I think you’re right. It’s almost definitely some sensationalism up top to warm the crowd.

I highly reccomend the book ‘Blessed is the Flame’ for a more in-depth take on this mindset, and how it breaks. It’s a short read, but quite incredible.

First of all, I’m proud of you for being the kind of person who is self-critical enough to ask questions like this. Things like ‘Do I speak hurtfully?’ And ‘Am I acting with privilege?’ Are hard to seriously ask, because they challenge our entire life structure to some extent, and might even require us to undertake the perilous and difficult task of manually adjusting our beliefs.
Then, to address what you actually asked, I think a general term is in your favor, if it’s true. Would you rather communicate that you feel for everyone undergoing an experience, or just most of them? It’s an easy thing to forget, that non women can become pregnant, and I doubt anyone blames you for misspeaking. That’s not an asshole thing to do. Nor is it an asshole move for someone to correct you. That’s just the dialectic of culture functioning properly and healthily. It’s unfortunate that we’re trained to associate self-change as a negative thing, because we should be questioning ours and other’s beliefs constantly, imo
