World News@lemmy.ml•Video - Halliburton Admits US Drove Them Out of Venezuela
3·12 days agoExxon’s stock went UP after Trump said that he’d keep them out of Argentina. Their CEO said that they’ve had their assets seized twice there already. It’s almost as if the markets think that this is being done without a clear plan of how to actually make it work.
Were these “incredibly nuanced infographics” written with crayons?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is a cold hard truth people have to accept in life?
3·15 days agoArguing on the internet isn’t going to change people’s opinions.
Do you have a sink grinder/disposal? If it fell down there and turned on, that could do it, but I think the poster that mentioned it getting caught in a drawer is probably the best bet.
I still consume on Reddit, but won’t post or contribute there anymore.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When/how frequently do you replace your phone with a new one?
3·20 days agoiPhone 11 Pro Max. Still on ios18 but will probably go to 26 soon because of security updates. I expect this to be the last iOS update that will install, so I’ll probably pony up for a new phone in September, for a 7 year lifespan.
I went with the top of the range $1400 model because I knew I’d use it for hours every day, for a long time. It ends up costing ing about 55 cents a day, and saving a couple bucks on the front end doesnt make sense to me.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When/how frequently do you replace your phone with a new one?
2·20 days agoA lot of phones have wireless charging now as well. Even if you don’t use it all the time, It’s fewer wear cycles on the connector.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What items do you have multiple of even though one would suffice?
1·27 days agoI was gonna say mine aren’t “classic” but the newest vehicle I have is a 2007…. One junk class daily driver plus a mega-hauler truck to tow around my track-day car.

32·1 month agoWait! Sister! What are you doing? Why are you editing those photos while stuck in the dryer? Dod you also run out of pants while editing those photos?

Fediverse@lemmy.ml•Random idea: a federated alternative to Amazon Prime built from independent shops?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Who is an artist or public figure you still enjoy despite them being cancelled for bad behaviour?
84·1 month agoI’m not trying to apologize for his behavior, but in my read of the situation, he ASKED women if he could jerk off in front of them and sometimes did even without permission, but at no point does it seem like they were held hostage, touched physically or threatened. If he asked ME (hetero guy) I’d have just walked away and thought “what a weird asshole”.

Technology@lemmy.ml•Flying cars take off in China as state backs low-altitude air travel
1·1 month agoYeah, I get all that. Link is still messed up. There certainly are functional prototypes of quad-copter “cars” that are all electrical in nature and that’s what I’d expect here too. Throw some wheels on one of those with a “road” speed of say 30-35 for the residential runaround tasks and the drive to an approved take off and landing zone (think flying above freeways only) and something like this becomes more feasible. The idea that we’re going to all be driving 4500 lb+++ “cars” is truly laughable.
The closest thing that I’d say exists today as a “flying car” is a Cessna 172 weighing in around 2500 lbs.

2·1 month agoLink is messed up for me. Are these things really that heavy? I’d assume that they’re really just upsized drone things.

2·5 months agoOur RenFest is also super spotty with cell coverage, so that’s nice. GMRS uses the same bands as FRS, so they’re compatible, but GMRS allows 1) Removable antennas for better coverage 2) More power (FRS 2 vs 50 watts on GMRS) 3) Repeaters for very wide coverage (I hear people talking from 60+ miles away on a local repeater once in a while).
The radios are more expensive, starting around $20 but the benefits are pretty nice.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was your last “impulse buy” and was it worth it?
1·5 months agoIt was the “no test” part that convinced me. I started looking into getting a technician ticket, but sparing a day or five for a class and test is laughable at the moment. Maybe when my life slows down a little (uproariously obnoxious laughter).

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was your last “impulse buy” and was it worth it?
9·5 months agoA pair of GMRS walkie-talkies (~$70) an associated license (~$35) a better whip antenna for the first (~$12) and a magnetic mount antenna (~$35) that I threw on a high shelf in a closet or could move to a vehicle if desired.
They can hit a publicly open but privately owned repeater about 20 miles away, which has been interesting. Means that I can radio contact over about a 50 mile radius which covers my city pretty well.
There’s a lot of chatter on the repeater, mostly from “prepper” types who want to be prepared if the cell system crashes. They’re kind of politically right leaning, which sucks but hey, it’s their repeater so I don’t participate a lot.
The radios I got have GPS sharing so they’re nice for any backwoods hikes as you can pinpoint each other and that’s a nice safety feature.
Are they worth it? I guess so. $150 to get fairly deep into a new hobby isnt budget breaking for me, but the actual usefulness is kinda limited when cell towers are most everywhere, even in places like campgrounds of most major cities

I’m gonna disagree. At 15, I’m absolutely fine with you wanting to be a different gender, but your body and brain have a long way to go before they are fully developed and adding chemicals isn’t something I can get behind. In the same way that avoiding peanuts is linked to causing peanut allergies, at 15 your body generally knows what to do. There are certainly edge cases that a qualified doctor can advise on, but I’d caution against adding to the crazy mix of hormones that are already racing through any 15 year old’s body.
