Exactly. Every job has it’s own skills, whether that be mental, physical, or both.
There’s not a single job on Earth that you could plop someone into with no practuce and have them instantly be good at it - if someone tells you otherwise they’re either incompetent or they’re lying (like stated in the above meme)

  • True. While it’s definitely more secure than their other 2FA offering (storing them with your passwords), it’s still the same developers making both - so it still feels like putting all my eggs in one basket.

For IOS I can see this as a valid option, because unless you are willing to trust Microsoft, Google, or Authy with your 2FA, which I personally don’t think one should, then you haven’t got too many options.

But on Android there are plenty others that are known to be reliable, Aegis for example, so the value proposition is lessened for me at least.

  • I’m a bit late to the party, but I would be inclined to agree with the majority here. Your choice to have their cookies deleted on browser close is adding more friction to an already quite high friction process - you managed to get them to switch over, you don’t want to undo all that over cookies of all things.

You have to remember, it is their machine at the end of the day, and while you might be able to put up with having to redo 2FA loads due to cookie deletion, they’re clearly not… And if that’s going to be the dealbreaker, you’re far better off forgetting cookie deletion for now and focusing on more passive privacy options like blocking 3rd party cookies, trackers, and ADs.

  • Problem is the people in power saying that first part know/think they won’t have to face the consequences of climate change, as such they only care about the short-term gains.

Capitalism will only solve problems where there’s a profit incentive, and there’s very little incentive to solve climate change until it starts unavoidably harming profits… By which point it’ll be too late.

  • Yeah - I do find it odd when people say Facebook is dying, because it really isn’t. Unless Zuckerberg pulls a Musk anytime soon, it isn’t going anywhere - unlike Xitter, Facebook is an advertising juggernaught that makes more than enough money to keep itself afloat.

And that’s not even mentioning Facebook groups, news pages, business pages, the market place, etc… they’ve got fingers in many different pies, and it shows.

And even more, while it may not be popular amongst tech savvy folks, it is still insanely popular amongst regular folks. I for one can vouch that a significant proportion of my non-techy friends use either it or Instagram as their primary social media.

Hell, that’s why messenger is up there too - everyone has Facebook, so everyone has messenger, making it extremely convenient to message people you know. It’s certainly why I use it a lot, it’s where my friends are.

Meta dominates social media even now - just look at your list. Of the top seven, over half of them are Meta.

  • I’m not sure how good an appeal to hypocrisy criticising Apple while continuing to use their products is…

Participating in your society and owning a car (in the US) are things you don’t necessarily get a choice in, unless you want to go live as a hermit in the woods.

But you certainly can choose to just not use Apple products if you disagree with their approach. I don’t even remember the last time I did. There is competition in the market, including more ethical brands (i.e. the Fairphone) if those take your fancy.
