Yeah it was pretty easy for me to switch to IRC because I have never liked audio/video chat stuff. I tried that once or twice with a very small group, I think I said 10 words all in all. I’m not a talker lol

My discord group had discussions about stopping discord use for weeks. I kept saying “if no one comes up with a better idea, I’ll go back to IRC.” The discussion didn’t move anywhere, I told them that by the end of February, I’ll go to IRC and delete my account. End of February came, I said “alright, IRC installed, I’ll be at X network, I made a channel called Y, see you there.” Then I deleted my account.
Three people followed me but they also stayed in discord. They tell me that everyone over there is surprised that I did what I told them for weeks that I would do lol.
But anyway, I’ve experienced this before. I left facebook in 2011, I lost contact with about 80% of the people I knew, because apparently calling, Whatsapp/SMS is not good enough. Then I left Whatsapp for Signal. I have 2 contacts there…
I’ve come to the conclusion that most people just don’t care about privacy and big corporations controlling shit. I wont be a part of that silly bollocks.

I maybe too tired to read this thread with all the people implying things and not saying anything straight… I’m very confused, can you maybe let me in on the big secret? Who did what? Lemmy creator/admin? I have no idea what is everyone talking about lol

I’m far from a power user as well. I was on Ubuntu for about 5 years. Also installed it on my dads laptop a few years ago. Last week I installed Debian for myself and dad. It was easy. Its also very nice to use, I have a ancient shit laptop and it runs with absolutely no problems at all. My dad’s been happy with it as well.
I wont tell you to do what you don’t want to, I just want to let you know that installing and setting up, for example, Debian is not difficult at all. If a moron like me can do it, so can you :)

Badger, badger, badger, badger, badger…

grow food with it.
Ohh, right. I didn’t read the OP very well and assumed they’d be growing weed. I thought it was rather small for that but growing salads does make more sense.

I’ve found a bunch by accident when browsing online auctions, second hand etc websites

What do you expect, its a Politico article lol

Come on OP, tells us the opinion you said that got you banned from where ever you came from.
Was it about lower taxation, deregulation? Somehow I have a feeling it wasn’t.

And they would ban him for that

I’m a introverted Finn. So… nope.

100% all of that.
I have these winter boots, got them from my dad. My dad bought them in early 1980s. They have a thing that lets you attach them to traditional skis. I use them during the winter for hiking and forest skiing. When the snows melt I take them to a cobbler and tell him to do a service when he has the time. I pick them up during the spring. They are getting on a bit, but I bet I can still get 3-5 years out of them.

I’ve been using Librewolf for about a month now, today I ran into the first problem, a website was blank but that fixed itself when I closed the tab and opened it again. I’ve been very happy with it so far. Sad to hear you ran into troubles.

If you don’t mind how it looks, as long as it works, check out James Channel on youtube. Dude cuts circuit boards with a angle grinder etc. Goes to show that you don’t necessarily need to be careful… as long as you know what and how to fix. And if you have a lot of hot glue.

Yup. But if only 10% of those people decide to go fix a thing, instead of buying a new one, I guess that’s a win.

Haha yup. Either a hobby or a way to make youtube videos. The amount of channels where people just fix things and they have millions of views is a good sign… I just hope it evolves into people starting to think about this whole fixing of things and not just watch youtube videos.

Yeah I do that a lot. Luckily I have tools and some skills so I can do a lot of fixing myself. My current clothes washing machine was given to me, the shock absorbers had let the liquids out. I put some new O-rings in and a bit of hydraulic fluid. Its been working fine for 3 years now lol.

Yeah I have like 8 different ones. I have a fancy Mitutoyo in a nice wooden box that I use on special occasions and a whole bunch of others that are more or less beat up. I use the digital one’s for quick checks on stuff like brake disc thickness, where it doesnt matter if its off by 0.05mm etc

I don’t remember who it was, some youtube person, who said that he talks to chagpt when he goes to sleep. Like he goes to bed and starts chatting with the bot until he falls asleep. Thats completely bonkers to me.
Yup. I don’t need 20 people to talk to. A few is enough. And I found a nice IRC channel with a lot of nice new people anyways. If the others want to stay in Discord, fine by me. Of course it helps that the people on Discord were not IRL friends that I’ve known since childhood. I lost those years ago =D
