What does that face mean?

I mostly use Discord for a few group chats, unixporn (please post more of it to Lemmy :3 !unixporn@lemmy.world) and some BG3 stuff. If the group chats moved to Matrix+Jitsi or even some form of Signal (that is still foss and does not require a phone number, self-hosted if possible) I would barely use Discord.

Edit because somehow I missed the most relevant part: I already barely get memes or trolls so not too many changes there.

I pretty much only use Lemmy but also contact friends and share photos on a Nextcloud instance one of them kindly provided (I assume it isn’t federated though?).

I would really like to start using matrix but unless I host my own instance and get everything ready I’ll never be able to convince my friends to switch, though some of them are slowly getting fed up with discord too.

I’m confused. Are the last two panes meant to prove the second or contradict it? (The last two look like a distraction to me)

I have an i3 and a hyprland installation.

I like tiling wms but Wayland still has some annoying issues so I like having the more stable i3 installation on my main computer.

I wish mine were the same. Mine just make more mess and still ask ffor more when the centre is empty…

3 is normally the default for expensive items though, right?

For that kind of thing I use jitsi, works great and I have access to a sort of private instance that I use occasionally. Works for just voice too but it can be a little unreliable (the last two times I had a weird issue where the others suddenly couldn’t hear me and vice versa but reloading fixed it) so something else might be better for that…

I use a Wayland version of rofi when I use hyprland though wofi probably works fine too (which I believe is default as per the config).

I have that feeling with almost every proprietary binary from a website nowadays.

If you spent some of that time a little too close to a black hole you might have a chance though! Obviously you just wouldn’t be working hard enough!

Almost sounds a bit like a hardware issue (apart from Bazzite working, though depending on how much time you’ve spent on it it might just be luck)

Also since you got to vent it’s my turn now. Windows by no way just worked for me. Within a few months of installing it it managed to nuke its own bootloader which I had to fix by booting into it from a live USB. I think I probably just chose a bad card but my Graphics drivers were really finicky too, though Linux had that issue too until I started using flatpak versions.

Probably not but it’s the exact same for me. If something doesn’t work on Linux it takes me a few minutes to fix it (there have been a few rare exceptions) but the time I spend trying to get closed source software to work is infuriating and I usually just give up.

I recently tried compiling a rust project on a Windows computer that has special software to reset the PC after a reboot.

I had to download an executable installer from the cargo website. That installer then said I needed a (1.3GiB) Microsoft C++ Compiler which then required a reboot after it was installed??? Why???

I’ve used Sycthing but it was somewhat finicky.

I have a laptop with 4GB of RAM and it works fine, my fedora i3 installation. It’s nothing compared to a proper computer but it’s not like I ever run out of RAM either. (Generally I open two Firefox windows, discord and vscode)
