World News@lemmy.ml•The children murdered by the Epstein coalition in Iran so far
144·17 days agoAmericans are such a passive people. Their state can commit the worst atrocities, no peep from them. If this was any EU country, heads would be flying.
EDIT: After writing this, I thought and I disagree with my own statement. People suck. All people, generally. Some are a bit more passive than others, but generally, humanity sucks, people suck. We value comfort way too much and are not up to give up 0.1% of it, even in the face of atrocities. Principled people are very rare.

Meta (slrpnk.net)@slrpnk.net•SLRPNK Community Discussion - March 2026English
3·23 days agoI find that “money” and “cash” should be the same community, if any. I just don’t see enough content for each of them separately. I don’t even see enough content overall. This splitting of communities into 100s different ones is, to me, the death by a thousand cuts.

1·24 days agoIndeed. Let’s accelerate their demise by suggesting Lemmy (and PieFed). Make sure reddit’s pieces of shit CEO and shareholders will not get to buy their 5th yacht, 10th house, and make them unable to act on their pedophile tendencies.

1·24 days agoI did a test a few months back. Just saying “I really like Luigi” gets you banned. It got me banned. However, if you say “I really like X”, where X is a right-wing, pedophile, whoever it may be, does not. Say “I really like X”, but substitute X for, for example, Putin. It will not get you banned. Reddit staff (and CEO) is right-wing, right-wing adjacent or right-wing acting. Fuck them.

Allegedly, killed a bad person. The “allegedly” refers to the idea that Luigi was the killer, not that the dead guy was a bad person.
The only way for society to improve, is for people to be willing to sacrifice their comfort with the goal of improving society. Luigi was willing to sacrifice his comfort for the better of everyone else. The opposite makes a bad person. The dead guy was willing to sacrifice everyone’s comfort for improving his own life. One minimizes suffering. The other maximizes it.
Welcome to Lemmy, the frontpage of the internet.
Please, do help with creating content. Be the change you want to see. Lemmy is for the community, by the community. Welcome!
I don’t like how he seems to quote (positively) Noam Chosmky so much. By the end of the article, it ceases to be fact-based and becomes more opinionated.
He makes a few points that I disagree with, namely: “the whole educational and professional training system is a very elaborate filter, which just weeds out people who are too independent and who think for themselves and who don’t know how to be submissive and so on - because they’re dysfunctional to the institutions” (This is from a Chomsky’s book). I 100% disagree with this. I just don’t see people creating an educational system that filters out good thinkers and smart people. If it does, it is surely failing. (I am in Europe). Ask any teacher what sort of training they received to filter out those people. They will tell you none. Ask any teacher what is the reason that one fails in the educational system. Not one teacher will tell you “oh, that person is too smart, too independent, for our current educational system. He needs to be dumber if he wishes to pass.”. Come on…
I wish he would have kept the document fact based. This is surely an attacking point that may be used to detract the rest of it.
Where are the guides on how to facilitate mass migration? Where are the guides for agriculture in the absence of international supply lines and fertilizer? Where are the checklists of supplies for individuals, small communities, and large communities?
I don’t know? Where are they? Post them. Create them.
If all you have to say of the 57 pages of the document is “the title is wrong”: Thank you for your contribution.
Most of it are graphs. I don’t think it takes that long to read. But even if it does, it should be read. Read it over a week, or two, or however long. Instead of doomscrolling, doomread. At least you are not giving money to pedophiles by reading this.

Technology@lemmy.world•Discord delays global age verification rollout after backlash - DexertoEnglish
6·28 days agoWhat?
I don’t think you know what centralization/decentralization means.
On matrix, you scan spin up a server/instance and communicate with any other matrix server/instance. On Fluxer, if you self-host, and your friend also self-hosts, your instance/server cannot communicate with your friend’s instance/server. You would have to create an account on your friend’s instance/server and vice-versa. You would also, probably, have to be running two clients in order to chat in both servers/instances.
Do you think a hand coffee grinder (I would buy the kingrinder k6, as I want cheap) is a “buy for life” product? I never had one in my hand, but I would think that anything that “grinds” probably gets blunt in a few years, no?

Climate@slrpnk.net•Environmental protest group Extinction Rebellion says FBI is investigating it for terrorism16·1 month agoGreta is honestly one of my heroes. The amount of hate that she got growing up, from right wing pedophiles(-protectors) is astonishing. And she persevered! All she did was point to the climate science. She tried to improve the world for both everyone alive and those yet to come. And she got hate for it.
Whenever a person tells me that they don’t like Greta, I know that I won’t like that person.

35·1 month agoAnother word for “marketing” or “advertisement” is Manipulation. Shady, manipulative, tactics.
Fuck them. I love Lemmy because it seems like the ratio of like-minded people is much larger here. Nothing better than seeing other principled people that would rather give up some comforts than deal with ads and bend the knee to the pieces of shit that try to push them.
Even products in the supermarket (such as bread!!) come with ads in the fucking plastic wrapper. I have changed my bread brand due to this. I will absolutely give up any comfort to avoid your manipulation. I will fucking shower in cold water if it means I don’t bend the knee to pieces of shit.

I never liked Discord. First and foremost, nowadays, I cannot log into it when I am using a VPN. And back when I could, it always felt so laggy and clunky.
I think todays society is not used to performant software. Everyone just buys a new computer/smartphone every year or every 2 years or so, so they probably have compute power to run whatsoever. I run old shit. 13 year old desktops or so, with no dedicated graphics card, old smartphones, etc. I need software to be performant.

6·2 months agoOh, both of those (street complete and every door) are great! I have just answered a few questions. This is a really easy way to improve OSM. We should probably do a “You Should Know” somewhere. I don’t think these apps are well known.
How long until the changes are accepted, do you have any idea? I already published them (by logging in my OSM account).

Hey there again! I tried the PT-PT dictionary and in terms of content, it is awesome. The formatting is a bit weird though. There is no formatting, everything is in the same phrase, different definitions in the same phrase gets annoying.
Is there a way to style it? For example, a word “XYZ: 1 bla bla 2 bla2 bla2” would look much better like so:
"XYZ:
Is this something that can be done on my end? I use KOReader.
