Another easy trick is to lean your phone to a wall and to do some goatse. There is no better way to get rid of the spies.

Linux@lemmy.world•This is Alyssa Resenzweig. She reverse-engineered Apple's M1 GPU with no public documentation and also developed an open-source Linux driver.English
1·5 hours agoThat part is even more idiotic. No one needs to be able to see to understand and be very good at mathematics and physics.
But that’s not even what she needed to learn and understand. To reverse engineer, you need to be patient, clever, creative and understand how assembler works. To write a driver is then the easier part and again, has nothing to do with visual skills. She could be blind and deaf and would still be able to reverse engineer GPU’s and sound cards.

53·22 hours agoYay, another centralized service owned by investors. And they want to build on “trust” lmao. Fuck off.
I am very sorry to hear that.
Grief is a process that makes you feel unwell. No one likes it and everybody wants it to be over ASAP. The thing is, our brain needs that process. You did not just lost a very good friend, you lost a part of yourself. This hurts, and those wounds need to heal first.
I have absolutely no doubt that you were the best for your dog, even when he was doing things he was not supposed to do and you had to correct him. You were his world, he was happy all his life.
Take your time to process. You will be alright!

Linux@lemmy.ml•Canonical is Funding a PhD to Automate C to Rust Translation for Ubuntu
15·5 days agoIt isn’t always about “new”. For example, some GNU binaries are decades old and were changed only to fix bugs.
C has major disadvantages compared to Rust, which is why even Linus Torvalds said a couple of years ago, to not write any new C code anymore for the Kernel and that old code will be transpiled steadily.
It is not about a cult. It is not about being fancy. It is quite the opposite. Choosing Rust over C is very rational.
Also, obligatory fuck Canonical. Automatic transpiling is such a stupid thing. Have fun maintaining the new code that was written by a machine, while not having any Rust experts in your team.
I was/am. ChatGPT wasn’t. But that’s the joke. It is ironic to post an LLM generated answer to a post explaining that LLM generated answers are stupid.
This is such a bizarre take on AI.
If I ask you a question, I want a useful answer. I don’t care whether you got there by remembering it, Googling it, reading documentation, asking a colleague, or asking an LLM.
Obviously, blindly pasting 2,000 words of irrelevant AI slop is annoying. But that’s a problem with bad answers, not with AI.
The particularly stupid part is suggesting that you should take a perfectly good AI-generated answer and rewrite it in your own words. What exactly has been achieved then? The information is identical, except somebody wasted five minutes manually paraphrasing it so the recipient can feel sufficiently exposed to human keystrokes.
Use AI. Give it the relevant context. Verify important claims. Remove irrelevant garbage. Send the useful answer.
Judge communication by its accuracy, relevance and usefulness—not by how inefficiently somebody produced it.

29·10 days agoI have issues with the term “transgender”, if you clearly look like male as a biological male, and just for the sake call yourself woman to enter a woman’s bathroom. This looks like it was just a stunt to annoy people and unfortunately, actions like these, will lower the tolerance of the general public towards transgenders.Edit: Sleep deprived me read something totally different. Never mind.

1·10 days agoThe amount matters. Sodium percarbonate is much safer to use compared to sodium hypochlorite. And again, the sodium percarbonate does much more than just bleaching.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•A trillion and one questions about laundry please help?
1·10 days agoBleach is not the name of a chemical, but a group of chemicals with a specific property. In this case, the oxidizer (usually hydrogen peroxide or sodium percarbonate) is also acting as bleach. The same goes for chlorine.
Don’t use clorine in a washing mashine. It will disinfect the machine, but it does not react the same way as hydrogen peroxide or sodium percarbonate. Additionally, chlorine might attack synthetic materials that are needed for the machine to work.
If you have a dish washer, put one of those tabs inside the washing mashine directly, then run it on max heat, full cycle. If you don’t have that, buy something with “Oxi” in the name. There should be a few cheap brands.

2·10 days agoIf the water is not able to pump off, you wouldn’t be able to open the door. So water flows, meaning the pump is able to work. Don’t worry about the big objects, the pump itself is protected. Odor comes mostly from bacteria, which is killed by heat. Dead bacteria still smells, which is why you use a oxidizer or tensides to get rid of those.
The oxidizer is quite impressive at decomposing anything organic, including hair. So just go ahead and try it.

Fair point :)
