Still better than these abominations I saw on the official long-distance cycle routes in the UK a few years ago. Was a lot of fun unmounting all my luggage every time. And good luck with a stroller or a wheelchair.

Btw. your second picture shows, how these things are meant to be installed. ~1.5m apart, so you can easily drive around them, even when going 30kph or with a cargo bike, but not with a car.

I wouldn’t say >!Anvil!< is European or >!Squaring the circle!< is Greek, just because it was first described in ancient Greece. You wouldn’t call “city” an Iraqi concept just because the first city was in the same region as modern day Iraq.

The two American books on the other hand are not very well know around the world. I’m not even sure if they have ever been released here in Germany for example. Unlike the Dostojewski book, that got international recognition and has been translated at least 12 times into German. That didn’t help me to guess it, though. I’m just not very well read.

You can get 10 different brands of orange juice in a German supermarket, but the biggest family pack would be a litre, not a gallon. When I was a kid fruit juice was still marketed as healthy, so we drank a lot. But even then, our family of 5 would never have been able to drink 3.7 litres of juice before it would get bad.

We use more land for golf courses than photovoltaics.. I’m not trying to say that golf courses are bad (even though they’re not exactly environmental friendly) but it shows how little space photovoltaics actually need compared to other things.

Also, don’t underestimate the amount of material a nuclear reactor uses. A single cooling tower of the Phillipsburg NPP weighed 32,500 metric tons. That’s roughly 250-500 MW in solar panels, and then you haven’t even built the reactor or the generator. I found sources talking about half a million tons per nuclear plant.

Haven’t had enough time for gaming this week either, but as I’ve read that Blizzard is planning to release an expansion for Diablo 2 (sic!) I thought about searching my basement for the old CDs. Time to revive my necromancer.

It happens more often than you think. There’s an old German song about a bear who accidentally gets a job in a factory they built above his cave one winter. When he roams around the factory after waking up they mistake him for an unshaved, lazy worker and put him in front of a machine to do some tedious work.

It’s basically the opposite story to the one in this comic.
