Alberta, especially its cities, is still closer to Toronto in culture than the EU is, truth be told. I work in Brussels and still would rather Canada not be EU. Im not alone.
On top of everyone else its just a practical reality. Alberta is already quite estranged from Ottawa as it is, add Brussels to the mix and it will be way worse. As a Canadian I cant help but interpret this as nothing against Canada, but insecurity about our increasingly belligerent neighbour.
Fascinating to me thats the perception in the first place. Here in Canada its at least acknowledged that driving is dangerous, but its seen as more convenient and a status symbol even though in many contexts its a lot less convenient.
