Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•🚨 It's time to fire up those seedboxes! Preserve human knowledge FOREVER by seeding Anna’s Archive torrents 🚨English
0·2 years agoAh perfect. I’ll throw some of the 300gb archives on my rig when I get home.
Often a combination of temp too high, not enough retraction, or water contaminated filament.
If the plastic in the hot end is too hot it will keep “running” out of the nozzle after retraction and you’ll get strings. Similarly if you don’t retract enough to actually pull plastic out of the nozzle during a rapid move, it will want to keep pushing thru. This is supported by the little blobs it leaves on that angled surface corner its travelling to when stringing, thats excess material squeezing out during its rapid moves then being left on that wall.
And if there’s water in your filament all bets are off on how it’ll behave.215 is pretty warm for that esun PLA especially if you’re using the stock brass nozzle, try bumping that down to 205 or even 200, and increase your retraction speed and distance settings in prusaslicer a tiny amount (0.1mm distance, 2mm/s speed at a time until you see improvement is plenty)
Use a temperature calibration tower to test things out.

0·2 years agoThey are meant for long-term preservation.
This is basically a “distributed backup” of the entire database. The torrents are not actively serving files- they’re there to store multiple copies of the main database across the globe so that the entire database can be recovered (by anyone with the requisite knowledge, mind you) in the event that something happens to the original Anna’s Archive team or the main database is lost/seized by “law enforcement”.
It’s equivalent to how backup managers in ye olden days would make broken up piece files of a certain size that could fit onto a CD or DVD, so you could fit the entire contents of a large 20+GB hard drive onto multiple smaller media. The backup itself is not accessed unless your main hard drive crashes, in which case you reassemble all the individual pieces back into your complete OS environment after replacing the hard drive.

0·2 years agoId happily seed a tb or so of the most in-danger torrents. My internet aint much but my old pc is almost always on.
How do I know which of the piece torrents are high or low on seeders? Maybe I’m just being special or can’t see it on mobile but is there no way to check each torrent’s health without actually downloading every piece and putting it in my torrent client?

0·2 years agoThey still do. There’s so much shit in Windows 10/11that could phone home and shut down your install if you don’t have a valid license, but Microsoft doesn’t actually give a shit if you have a license or not. They just want to make sure you have their botnet installed and not any other OS.
You not responding because you don’t actually have any logical arguments lmaoooooo
Get better material, this trolling is lower effort than I’ve ever seen

1·2 years agoBecause in the words of GabeN, piracy (in a 1st world country at least) is a service problem and not a pricing problem. Many things are worth paying for, especially when you are supporting smaller creators, artists and indie game devs. But when heavy-handed DRM’s and corporate shovelware and services that actively remove content I pay for makes it a shit experience. I’m gonna just torrent that shit, fuck 'em

0·2 years agoUnless you are on a private tracker that have seed ratio requirements, there is zero obligation to hold onto a torrent until you have a 1:1 ratio. Its only a recommendation, and very much an “Honor Among Thieves” situation.
Feel free to delete the wrong torrent and re-download the right one. If you feel bad about it, keep the right one until a 2:1 ratio so you maintain balance in the world. :)

1·3 years agoYes, PLA creeps ridiculously fast in hot conditions it is unsuitable for use in any environment over 35C tbh.
PETG is better but will still warp/fade over time if it’s exposed to the sun, and likely need replacing.
You need to be printing in ABS or ideally ASA if you want all-weather resistant cases. Which means now your printer needs an enclosure and ventilation…
Except you’ve actually changed nothing. Apple forces all third party browsers on their devices to use WebKit (the Safari engine) for the backend, so really all changing browsers does is give you a reskin under Apple’s thumb.

Privacy Guides@lemmy.one•My ISP has taken total control of my networkEnglish
3·3 years agoGet. Rid. Of. Their. Router.
ISP provided networking routers are inherently garbage. They don’t want users messing with that, because your average user doesn’t even know what the fuck an ethernet cable is and will break everything by fucking around in it.
Run your own router and put theirs into modem only mode with routing and wifi disabled. If that’s not an option ask their tech support if you can buy your own DOCSIS/fiber modem (or whatever hardware you use) and return their hardware. If they also don’t allow that… well, switch or just suck it and deal with it while the ISP rubs their nipples some more.

For context, Bungiefan_ak has no fewer than 4 alts that I’ve seen (all on different instances with the same username) and has spent his time on !memes@lemmy.ml continuously spamming heavily transphobic, homophobic, and objectifying sexist “memes”. Just about every one of his alts is now banned but I’m sure more will pop up.
Now, why the fuck he cares so much about pirates at this point, I haven’t a clue…
2GB of memory is fine for openWRT. Routing is surprisingly light tbh, consider that most all home/SOHO routers run integrated SoC’s with <256MB of memory.
routing speed is more dependent on CPU +cache speed
i’d eat my boot if a residential ISP let you run your own SFP fiber module. they have to pretty tighttly control those things to keep signal levels right and have wavelengths in the right spots. plus they’ll need to upstream reconfigure it somewhat frequently as the local network changes and if it’s not their hardware, they’ll get mad.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Which proprietary software do you prefer over their open-source alternatives, and why?English
1·3 years agounfortunately “pretty good” is not “guaranteed”, which is often what I need for both work and school. I tried to make myself use only libre options for like a week and just about every assignment I opened was broken in some way or another so I always ended up back in Word.
I’ll still use the libreoffice options if i’m, say, already logged into my Linux install and don’t want to bother going back to Windows. But since I get Office for free thru work and school, and so does everyone else, well… I just use it.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Which proprietary software do you prefer over their open-source alternatives, and why?English
1·3 years agoHonestly, its gotta be the MS Office suite.
Yes if you’re just writing your own simple documents libreoffice/OpenOffice will work, but if you have to do anything more complex than a single page spreadsheet, text-on-white presentations, or 3 page MLA book reports… or, even worse, have to interact with documents and spreadsheets created by basically any other person on the planet, I’ve just never had a good consistent experience with any of the free options.

I also have a zen4 cpu.
The 30 second boots are memory training. The motherboard is basically training itself on how the DDR5 memory modules respond on every signal wire and it can be inordinately slow depending in memory amount. For whatever reason, AMD DDR5 systems are slower at it than comparable Intel DDR5 systems.
Update your BIOS to the latest version then enabled “Memory Context Restore”. The bios will then save the last training results and stop taking 30 seconds to start up.
