Very true, but when it comes to something like ChatGPT (or Claude or whatever new AI assistant we have with a cutesy name), people need to understand that using these services is a bad thing, until things change

2·6 days agoYou make a great point. I am not vegan but I have a condition that makes me allergic to red meat and mammal products of any kind such as milk, cheese etc. I am extremely grateful for my oat milk and potato-based vegan cheeses.

1·6 days agoI’m quite similar but due to health reasons - I can no longer safely eat red meat of any kind soooo I don’t XD so by complete chance my diet is primarily vegetarian with some occasional chicken, turkey and fish. I’m also dairy free for the same reason. I actually really dislike chicken and turkey from a taste standpoint (and ethics standpoint) so would prefer fish but it’s so expensive ;-;

1·7 days agoA friend of mine is a cybersecurity teacher… maybe I should reach out to him. I’ve just switched from Ecosia to Brave for my search engine and it seems to be returning helpful options thus far. Is there anything smaller than setting up my own XMPP server that you’d suggest as a beginner option, or is it better to just dive into the deep end and read like crazy?

1·7 days agoOooh okay so not installing it on my laptop, got it. What do you mean a domain name, like do I need to purchase a .com from Porkbun or something like that? And what do you mean by local network, like my wifi?

3·7 days agoI’m up in the thousands already… My partner has set a hard limit until I use some of them up XD My other hobby is quilting so it could be worse. Fabric doesn’t store quite as neatly.
This is pretty cool, thanks!

4·8 days agoI had to get new summer clothes from the thrift store recently too. I managed to score two pairs of shorts and a pair of pants, all in a linen-rayon blend, which is my favorite fabric - natural fibers, keeps me cool but has some softness and drape!
I’ve also started a new hobby recently (beading with seed beads and pony beads) and so far I have bought only one pack of beads new. Everything else has been thrifted or found on Depop/Facebook marketplace so I’m pretty happy with that. I’m a creative by nature but I hate how many creative hobbies involve buying a ton of brand new supplies (especially when so many of us are ready to share or offload)
Neat!! Good job!

11·11 days agoThe connections we have with individual people, as individuals, are world-changing. Think small. Don’t think about fixing the world, think about fixing things for your loved ones, your local community, your town, etc.
There’s an idea I read about recently in Emergent Strategy by adrienne maree brown which says to consider a flock of starlings, wheeling and swooping above a field. There is no leader; each starling acts only in accordance with the starlings that are nearby, yet all together they create a beautiful, intricate, coordinated pattern.
Be a starling and act according to your nearby starlings. Change is made by a thousand small actions, a thousand small starlings becoming a whole flock. I don 't think I’m doing the idea justice here, but it’s brought me a lot of comfort <3

Climate@slrpnk.net•Which of your climate actions make the biggest difference? Here’s how to find out8·16 days agoI imagine actions such as snacking on the bourgeoisie would make the biggest difference, realistically speaking
EDIT: okay I read the article and this is actually pretty cool!! It’s very practical and offers concrete actions for all of us.
In previous work, we showed how inequality constrains many people’s capacity to participate in climate action, whether that’s sustainable investing, protesting, or simply having the resources to make different choices. The same people with the most freedom to act often have the biggest footprints.

Absolutely, yeah. There’s AI now that can detect cancer better than humans, I’m all for that. I try to remember to say “genAI” instead of just AI but I do often forget, thanks for the reminder!!
