  • That is the issue with the way speed limits are implemented. They design and build a road for high speeds, then set the speed limit 10-15% lower than than the designed speed, thus penalizing drivers who use the road as designed.

There is nearby school that has a 20 mph limit during school hours. Slow traffic is a good thing especially around schools. But then they also have wide radius curves at the corners of intersecting streets and entrances into the school’s parking areas. These curves are wide enough to allow cars to take these turns at 30 mph despite crossing a sidewalk or crosswalk. That is infrastructure that kills children by design, and it’s standard.

Speed cameras are revenue generators. They exist to make money from fees. And because the speed camera can only give fees after the fact, there is no immediate consequence to speeding. A speed camera can only catch someone already speeding, they do not prevent someone who is already speeding from continuing. The only solution is better infrastructure.

  • I mostly waited until HRT to transition socially. I was presenting fem privately at home for quite some time before HRT. I took an approach of go fem with plausible deniability until the point I felt ready to start pursuing HRT. When I needed new clothes I would buy woman’s versions of the clothes I already wore. Nice button down shirt, but this has the buttons backwards. Not a detail anyone notices, but felt better.

The first time I went out wearing a dress was after about a month on HRT. Wasn’t really out, wanted to see if anyone would figure it out. It was very strange, I got so many compliments on my outfit, but not on the dress itself, just the other parts of the outfit. It was confusing.

I compared the text message conversations with my wife from the second month of HRT to the year before, and the difference was night and day. The first coworkers I came out to were those who noticed the change in mood and asked follow up questions.

I understand your concerns. Now is a dangerous time to be trans. But keep in mind, it’s also dangerous to have the wrong hormones.

I second dandelion’s stance on this. Start HRT as soon as possible. I didn’t start on HRT until my 30s and my only regret is not starting sooner. Do not delay.

The HRT did far more about my depression than my clothing.

  • Frank Drebin crashing his car into something without noticing is a recurring joke that goes back to the very beginning of the series. It happened every time he drove anywhere in the TV show version that predated the original naked gun movie. They’ve been making this exact joke for decades at this point, don’t think its more targeted than it is.

A writer didn’t go into the writing room with bloodlust. They were continuing a longrunning joke.

  • The video is very americentric. Most of the issues are with implementation. Many of the things are only a problem in the way that they are used in the US.

Streets that are one way for cars as a consequence of reducing cars to a single lane are a good thing. The american version is keeping the street the same size when making it one way. The result is turning an entire downtown block into a highway median with 4-6 lane one-way roads on either side.

Modal filters are a good thing, but that’s basically never done in the US. Culs-de-sacs are always built in car dependent suburbs. Culs-de-sacs are not connected to stroads, but small neighborhood streets. They’re deliberately constructed dead ends to prevent thru traffic with no consideration for anyone outside of a car.

Its pretty common for there to be dirt paths through someone’s yard. A few sympathetic homeowners will let people walk through their property when they realize the neighborhood was designed to require children walk 30 minutes in the wrong way to get to school.

One ways and dead ends are good tools for building urban places, but they are never used well in the us.
