Bad idea. Fertile ground for abuse, intentional or otherwise. As others have said, it’s hubris to think one or two untrained adults can do professional grade teaching.

A chainsaw is a tool that you might cause harm with if you use it in stupid ways. We don’t give chainsaws out to children. We don’t use chainsaws for cutting dinner.
There are human elements to the problem but that’s not a big reveal.

Yes. They are stupid and don’t deserve their huge paychecks.
They could’ve done basically nothing. Maybe security updates. And they would’ve had a decent brand that kept bringing in money. Their leadership is worse than doing nothing. A dog would make a better ceo.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•It would be so interesting if humans didn't have a gender assigned at birth and could choose who they want to be.
5·5 days agoThe “and” in the title is key. Humans can currently choose their gender expression, so that part can be stripped out with no changes to the world. Not assigning gender at birth is an interesting thought. Some people are really, from my view, weird about making sure their children perform gender correctly as early and often as possible.
Also I think it’d be neat if it was “genre” in English too. People understand there’s more genres than horror and fantasy.

Unfortunately, I don’t know much about self hosting (beyond what I’ve picked up working in software development) so I don’t see myself running one of these myself. I’d probably use it if it came to my neck of the woods (NYC)

Like, you can put money in Vanguard’s index funds, but you can’t pick individual stocks. Maybe. I would also accept that you just aren’t allowed to own stock. Put your money in government bonds or something.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•We got more games and better games when there was less money being made in the industry.
11·11 days agoOne could write a paper about how profit motive and art are at odds, and as the portion of agents seeking profit goes up the quality of the art goes down. Probably many people have written quite a bit about that.
I think it’s also worse when the people keeping the profits are removed from making the art. Someone who sets out to make a game and make some money on it will probably make better art than a pack of accountants and shareholders calling the shots.

I don’t think people buying consoles are doing that kind of long term thinking
