Water might be wet

Being comfortable with websites is a very western thing (and I guess that is also a minority in smartphones). In countries like India, a huge majority of the people’s first personal computer was a smartphone. They either use the google app to browse the web or use other apps. No one bothers to use a web browser. It is still the case today. A lot of people don’t use a desktop here.

A lot of normies won’t be using Lemmy or fediverse in general. It is not as addictive or personalised as the mainstream social media. Plus an avg joe doesn’t know whan an instance is. If one instance starts to get too many users, it might just shut down sign ups.
Edit: Lemmy also doesn’t have an “official” app. So it adds even more friction. Yeah a few users might get excited and use it for a couple of days and then just go back to reddit.

Wonder why all the webapps look the same now?🤖
It’s so bad that I can’t even tell which website I am opening at this point. Everything has the same design, icons, layout, etc.

I really want to post this to r/IndiaTech on reddit. Few of the fellas there are simps for Starlink because a village with hundreds to a few thousands of people need it (spoiler alert: they don’t. The government owned company BSNL is already laying fibre in villages).
But I don’t have an account ughh.
Authentik with passwordless flow. I have two options at login—Sign in with Passkey or Sign in with Google for my family.

A lot of lemmy servers have Human Verification in front of them maybe that’s why?

I hate Reddit as well. These days I just use it to find solutions and tips quickly. Other than it’s useless. Old Reddit is not even Usable w/o an account.

Huh?! My server and a 8tb external hdd costed me 40k inr (bought 1.5 years ago). It consumes less than 200-300inr worth of electricity per month. With that I am self-hosting Immich, Jellyfin, Paperless-ngx, Vaultwarden (Used by 7-8 users with family organisation), Firefly-iii, linkwarden, a central syncthing nodes which is synced with my client devices, media tracker, arr stack with qbittorrent. With a Proton VPN subscription of 7.5k inr/year and backblaze for cloud backs about 150inr per month, it costs me just ~10k (~100usd) a year in runnings costs for subscriptions worth of 50-60k a year. With those savings I can literally buy a really good Moped every 2-3 years. Granted my nvme in the server is due replacement in a year because it is a lower quality one and has already worn out by 40%. But it definitely saves a ton of money when you have cheap electricity.

Oh don’t worry. Fanboizz will still buy it and will say “This changes Everything!”

I tend to avoid Flatpaks if the package is directly available in official Repos or even in an unofficial repo. If I have to download it from the AUR then I will check if a Flatpak version exists or not and install it from there.

Does this mean I won’t need the multilib Arch repo anymore? Or at-least after it has matured enough to not need 32bit stuff?

Is this /s?
Alright I got somewhere. It’s the DNS. Specifically my Adguard Home setup. By default it uses rate limiting of 20 requests per client. I removed it. And now Firefox is loading as fast as Brave was loading it previously.

Although websites on Brave are still loading much faster, Firefox is now pretty usable. A few hundred ms difference is fine for me. The slowdown started happening since Firefox 150ish so probably something changed then that affected Firefox but Chromium based browsers worked fine. IDK what but for now removing rate limiting works for me. Hopefully my router won’t crash because of this. Thanks for the help. Also if I use Firefox DoH with custom Controld endpoint, everything loads at lightening speed. But I can’t use it as there are DNS rewrites in my Adguard Home which allows me to access my services w/o typing the IP all the time.
No I don’t want to lose my library 😭
